I've heard a few things, heard from a friend who's seen it for real and I've been to the website. But still I'm not sure. I see it has a new navigation thingy and it's integrated a few things but I really don't see the point.
It all seems to be angled towards laptops and desktops in large networks. I'm live in a house that has a Mac as well as a rubbish old lump of a PC plus this one right here (the one I'm considering to upgrade).
Will it really help me? Is it worth it?

Some of you may not have noticed but I said 'PLUS this one right here'. The old lump is a different computer. I'm considering Vista for the relatively new PC I'm on now. New PC is the one I'm considering, not old lump.

i live in a bi-platform house (one mac, one pc), and we stick to one rule of thumb that is equally important on both platforms: NEVER get the first release of any product, hardware or software. there will always be kinks, bugs, and problems that will be fixed in the subsequent release. the longer you wait, the more reliable product you'll get, but at least wait until version 1.1 comes out. the only situation in which i'd say it's better to get vista now is if the computer in question is running a pre-xp platform.
if you're really interested in what people have to say about vista so far, i'd check some of the more popular technology blogs and websites, like http://www.pcworld.com .

Vista. some human beings say Vista makes use of up lots equipment ram. that's genuine. Vista makes use of those ram to velocity up the computing device. Thats why there is not lots loose ram. Xp wastes those loose ram doing not something. Vista is much extra nicely suited than XP than u think of that's. Vista hasn't any undertaking to me for a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days already. Vista is swifter whilst commencing off application and beginning the computing device. some human beings evaluate XP because of the fact they are too used to XP or they are gamer. it style of feels vista is slower in video games by potential of two-5 fps. No huge deal. VISTa!

First go to this web site and see if your computer is even ready for Vista. You will need to download an active x program that will run on your pc and test your hardware, taking out any guess work for you. Most of all this web site is FREE to use!
http://pcpitstop.com/vistaready/default.asp
Most likely it will not run on your pc, if its older......
The next thing is, are "YOU" ready for vista. It has been in development for years now, but because of several parts of vista being totally rewritten, many companies didnt even bother to make software until the release date.... There is also tons of bugs to be expected when any software hits the open market. If your not wanting to deal with the headache, I would wait at least a year to upgrade.....
Hope this helps! Good luck.....

It will be at least a year before all the bugs are worked out, do you really want to be a guinea pig for Microsoft? They won't pay you, in fact they charge you to be their testing ground. Every new OS Microsoft puts out goes through this period and it always amazed me how willing people are to pay for a product that's not ''done'' yet! What do you think service packs are? Microsoft fixes the problems that their guinea pigs uncover and then releases them to us in a service pack. Listen, XP is going to be supported at least for the next three or so years, and you can buy Widows XP Pro right now for $140.00. It is an excellent OS and it will certainly tide you over until all the other saps do Microsoft's work for them fixing Vista.

It's not worth it and you don't need it.
Why upgrade when Xp works perfectly.
The vista is still full of bugs and many applications are not yet compatible. Music and video driver issues are also a major problem.
Simply I would only buy it with a new pc.

You say the PC is old?
If you have less than a gig of RAM don't even think about upgrading to Vista.
Linux is probably a better solution for computers with old hardware.

Sure, if you want to be a guinea pig tester to work (free) for microsoft and work out their bugs for them.
As a general rule... never buy new software for at least 6 months after it is released.
