I was in the army for 8 years. i was not a ranger, I was a training and ops NCO, and worked several times with the rangers at the joint readiness training center. They are a unit onto themselves. They have a tremendous bond, work ethic is beyond anything you have ever seen,
The training is very long. First, you are going to go to regular boot camp (basic training) - 11 weeks. Then you will have to go to SOI - School of Infantry - 9 weeks. Then you will go to jump school - 3 weeks. Then and only then can you apply for ranger school. Ranger school is 68 days of lack of food, sleep deprivation, constant pressure and extreme physical activity, theory and practice. Ranger school is HARD CORE, and many who start, do not finish. It has about a 65 percent wash out rate. Ranger school has 3 segments. Benning, Mountian and Florida. Desert training now happens AFTER you have become a ranger.
Being "in shape" will not be in enough shape. You better start running and doing push ups now.
I did watch a group of about 12 rangers whip everyone in an enlisted-club on night...including me.
Rangers are some of the baddest, best, greatest elite fighting forces in the world today...compareable only to the US Navy Seals and Isreal's Isayeret.

If you want to join, that is a fine job, but realize a couple of things. First, a Ranger is an infantry soldier. 11B will likely be your military occupational specialty. That is basic infantry. You will attend basic, then AIT, then go to your unit. You also need to go to the U.S. Army Airborne School to be in a Ranger batallion. Airborne School is easy, but I didn't go to Ranger school.
Second, there are only three Ranger batallions. There are many other infantry units that are great units filled with highly trained soldiers, so the Ranger batallion isn't the only way to go.

I don't know a lot, but I do know a little.
Rangers are elite infantry/special forces.
They do a lot of dangerous missions and long-range reconnaissance. Rangers are also considered to be 'rapidly deployable'--they are among the first to get to a combat theater.
They also use the best technology.
As far as training goes---I've heard it's a lot of 'sleep deprivation'. IOW; 18-20 hour days for months. A lot of wilderness surival, even alone--for long periods of time--living off the land and navigating your way around a complex Land-Nav course.

It all depends on what your MOS will be, or what job you get from the Army. After Basic Training, you go to MOS training, then you need to apply for Ranger school.

not just anyone can be a US Army Ranger......qualifying alone is detrimental to your health - physcially and mentally.
first you go through boot camp, then Advanced Infantry Training, then, if you are lucky and fit, you may qualify for Ranger training. But, first, you have to qualify.........this will test your body, mind, and soul to the limits of all your resources and endurance.
a lot of individuals are weeded out before even going to Ranger School......
these are elite soldiers who don't just let anyone into their elite fraternity........good luck, kid.
