no it will not do it by itself. and no you can't install a different size gear . the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is driven by a reluctor inside the transfer case.
correct way is go to dealer and ask them to recalibrate the EBCM ( electronic brake control module ) for the oversized tires. this is very easily done with the scanner, and takes about 5-10 minutes to do , so the charge for doing it shouln't be high
the recal. I mentioned can only be done on tire sizes that the vehiles computer
we at the dealership do it for customers all the time.
the recal. of the EBCM can only be performed up to a certain size
depending on you axle ratio. anything above the max. for that vehicle requires what's called as a VCI # .
now it gets a little involved. and technical....
good luck

No, the computer will not automatically compensate. The wheel/tire size is one of the givens that is programmed into the computer. It uses this to figure your speed. Other inputs it recieves come from sensors to measure air intake, throttle position, fuel mixture, fuel flow, etc. Wheel/tire diameter = fixed input.
There are a number of ways to recalibrate your speedometer (which is legal by the way. If anything it would be illegal to have an innacurate speedo).
1) Purchase a performance chip that has a program custom tuned to your vehicle and the new wheel/tire size. I believe Superchips can set you up.
2) install a new speedometer gear (this is not very difficult if you are mechanically inclined at all)
3) And though I've never heard of it, I suppose you could ask the dealer if they could reprogram the computer for the new tires. Worst they could do is say "no".

Something as new as 2003 is OBDII, the computer runs everything. Any aftermarket tuning programmer (hypertech, etc.) can make the change, possibly the dealership would do it as well - although usually they are removing programming, not applying it.
Also if you get a tuning package done by someone like pcmforless.com, they can do it for you.

No. I don't believe you can recalibrate the speedometer legally. You'll need to figure out your actual speed and try to remember your speedometer isnt readin correctly

No... You just take it to a speedometer shop and they put a new gear in, it's a few bucks. They do it all the time when people put bigger wheels on.
