There is not enough about your condition itself to give advice on that, only on your current predicament.
If your level of depression is such that you are contemplating self harm, make another appointment as soon as practical
You were unwise to stop your medication without consulting your GP, but I am sure you are aware of this. Antidepressants take at least 3-4 weeks to cut in so they should have began to help by now even after your break.
I don't understand why you could not tell your doctor that things were not going well. Did you lie to him and say you were fine, or did he not really ask you how things were?
If you lied, don't worry he will have seen it all before and not take it personally, however in future, it is in your own interest not to do this. If he didn't really ask you how you were, but just prescribed more pills, perhaps you should be seeing someone who is more sympathetic to your condition.
Hopefully you already have some sort of follow up appointment, all patients with depression should be in automatic follow up. If this is much more that 3-4 weeks away make an earlier one.

Them not working after you stopped taking them then tried taking them again is pretty normal. They probably won't work anymore for you. Either you have built up a tolerance or your body is now resistant to the tablets because you stopped them. You would not be wasting his time, that's what he's there for. You might have been embarrassed about what you did, but I don't imagine you are the only patient that has ever done that. I'm sure he will understand. You could call his office and explain what happened and he could write you a new prescription for something else.

I need to echo the others who say "GO BACK TO YOUR DOCTOR." Don't mess around with depression...it's a baffling ILLNESS. And, yes, it is an illness, just as legitimate as diabetes, or high blood pressure. There are many types of anti-depressants out there. You just need to find the one that works best for you. I takes time...but it is SOOOO worth it. YOU ARE WORTH IT!

You WON'T be wasting your doctors time that it what he is there for, I think that as you were on them for a short time then came off them it is going to take 4 to 8 weeks to get back into your system. Antidepressants should be monitored by your doctor weather it is while your on them or if you are coming off them. PLEASE go and see him.

Dont listen to people who say 'magic pills' dont work. Dont think that you are wasting your doctors time, without patients, he would be unemployed. Give your meds time to back into your system, take it easy, and chill!!! Good luck, from manic depressive xxx

you can call his office and ask one of the receptionists what would be the best thing to do. sometime my doctor is willing to call in a prescription for a month or so, so i can try it something else if i'm not getting sleep or i feel worse from the medicine.

You don't need medication to make you feel "happy". You are in control of your own destiny. You make things happen. Not any magic pills.
