I agree with pretty much every assertion that you made in your question details. I think that we would have more scientific and technological advances and a generally more educated society. Without religion people would seek to understand our world through knowledge and information, rather than blindly believing all that religion teaches.
In addition, I think stem cell research should be supported. Cloning is somewhat freaky, but if it's in a controlled setting and it offers a variety of benefits to humanity as a whole, then go for it.

Yes, I do, and yet I think some people derive their reason to live from religion, and so I cannot say that our society would be entirely the same, with better medical treatments, were religion to never have existed. I think now, when we are at the stage where religion is no longer required to explain the unexplained nature of certain things, the chains of backward thinking can be cast away and our society as a whole can emerge, secular, and enlightened. It won't happen, but wouldn't it be nice.

i think of that the guy who feels faith is a variety of slavery have on no account been waiting to truly open their strategies to the possibility that there may well be some component extra desirable than themselves. As for loose thinkers there are lots of them interior the international right now. some have suggestions that border on lunacy yet have the potential to advance very considerable questions. lots of the innovations of the previous have been created by potential of human beings who had some particularly enlightened strategies; Edison, Bell, Marconi, the Wright bros., etc.... many of their suggestions on the exterior gave the impression to be the delusions of somebody that became insane. ethical standards are dictated by potential of society as an entire. a main occasion of majority regulations. If society universal that homicide became morally maximum appropriate then no person might bat a watch at open homicide. yet even people who've a calling from a extra robust potential to kill, tend to accomplish that in a some what inner maximum way. shop coming up with "theories" so as that some human beings will something which will shop our minds busy.

Not necessarily. Religion has brought a great deal of enlightenment to the world, The idea of heredity, for example, was explored by a monk. The clock, without which modern life would be impossible, was another monastic invention.
The preservation of literature in libraries, the founding of universities and hospitals were often religious endeavors.
The difficulty is not religion so much as it is that all too often, religion is manipulated by governments and others seeking power.

Yes, I do. Religion was created to do nothing more than to keep the lower classes from revolting. Stem cell research could give hope to people without any hope today. I say could because there isn't any proof because people don't want to take the risk. By and large religious zealots are nothing more than hypocrites.

I wholeheartedly agree. My mother has diabetes and it could kill her, and if something like stem cell research was allowed...
I think it's worse for someone to allow a person who has a life, family, friends, pets, jobs, and so many other things to die than to allow a non-complete organism that can't even think for itself to die. My mom has touched several people, while a rejected fetus hasn't affected all that many.
People need to learn that risks need to be taken.

Without religion what would we have to kill each other over?
I'm not sure it's really religion putting pressure on politicians. Religion itself is a political tool to control people.

Not more enlightened just more advanced.
Perhaps if we put more philosophers in positions of power....
But we'd also have to get rid of religion for that too...
I guess you're right.

Definatly. Without religion, we'd be so far advanced now. We'd be at least 500 years more advanced by now without it (dark ages, etc).

Keep in mind that most reiligions pave the way to war. War is the biggest, fastest way that mankind has advanced technologically. War is the reason for science to advance so fast.
