Do not ever shave a cat yourself, cats skin is really strange it folds very easily and if you nick him you think no problem then you let go of the skin and it opens up to a huge gaping wound. Same with scissors people try to cut mats with scissors and think they have just hair they cut they see little nick and then they let go of skin and again huge gaping wound.

You will end up with a terrible vet bill not to mention a very hurt cat. Should just call around and get best price and have done by pro.

You should never, ever shave your cat at home. As a matter of fact, you should never shave a fact in the first place unless it is absolutly neseccary and if this is this case, contact a well-known pet groomer or a veterinarian. Cats have thin skin that cuts very easily and shaving this is difficult and not something that a cat wants to tolerate. There is no point in shaving a cat unless it is for a medical reason (contact a vet) so please do not do this. I am a groomer and I know that many people have seriously injured their cats by trying this at home.

Don't shave your cat. Contrary to what people here are saying, you can't cut a cat with an electric shaver. I assume you know you can't use a razor on a cat.

Did you know that your cat's coat protect it from both heat and cold? Persians come from a hot country. PERSIA. Their coat is designed to protect them. But stupid people shave them in the summer thinking they are hot and then their cats die of heat stroke.

DON'T DO IT!

a silver persian and you want to ruin this poor kitty's coat...take the cat to a groomer for crying in a bucket, it won't cost that much.
(not to mention the nicks in the cat and clawing and biting you'll get)
