Acrylic resins are made from the emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate. Peroxide catalysts are used in the process. The acrylic resin can be turned into sheets, tubes, etc. or made into fibers. Acrylic resins are similar to polystyrene in that they are thermoplastics - plastic items that can be melted. The other type is thermoset resins. These will not melt. They include urethanes, epoxies and polyester (fiberglass) resins.
