im downloading some music on programs and i cant play them because there avi. files...what are they and how can get these to actually work

AVI files are video files. You can strip the audio from them using various programmes.

I use a free programme called "Virtualdub Mpg2" available in the "tools" section of the site I mentioned. In "VirtualDub" it has the option to save the audio as a WAV file.
