First off is it a bruxism appliance (clenching and grinding) or are you going through orthosis therapy (TMJ issues) I agree with the dental hygienist in this blog but these are two different areas and is it a lower or upper appliance. The office I work with is an LVI practice which is the cutting edge of dentistry and we treat patients for both issues. If they are opening your bite than this is a orthosis and you can tell because the shape of your upper teeth will be in the lower appliance- If it is a bruxism appliance the surface will be flat and not have any characteristics to the anatomy of the appliance. All in All wear the appliance as asked and see if this helps you out. If you start to have headaches or vertigo or numbing in the hands and arms, this is effecting the relationship between the condial and fossa ( the opening and closing of the jaw) seek someone who has experience in the field.

The night guard is a very interesting concept. Not only is it designed to help from wear on your teeth from grinding, it is also designed to train your jaw to remain just slightly open. Basically if you are getting headaches or your jaw is locking, you are having spasms and by training your jaw to be only a few millimeters more open, it takes your jaw out of spasm. It seems to me that you must have extensive wear on your teeth or severe headaches/locking issues. Whatever the reason behind it, if you can stick it out for a while and wear it all the time, you will probably have better results faster. (And overwearing it will not hurt you as long as you are taking it out and cleaning your teeth and the guard correctly)

hi there, so your getting youtr night guard on thursday and the dentist advise you to wear that all the time, instead of only at nights.if your dentist told you to wear it all the time then you should wear it at all times. teeth grinding or bruxism can be abad habit if you dont get treatment to this. if im being honest with you for most patients that i see and for what i have noticed most of them ..are STRESSED.. so try not to stressed your self so that you will not wear it all the time, then again if you still have any questions regarding this matter, since your going to your dentist soon ask them your queries so that they can better assist you with your concerns and questions. hope this piece of advise helped you.. take care and good luck

most of the night guards these days are clear
my daughter had to wear hers all of the time for 6 weeks and then at night only ... you could not even tell she was wearing them unless you were up close and really looking for them

be cool...
