He was just an Advocate of Peace. He was an Inspiration of Non-Violence. He was a Pillar of Strength for many.

He asked no one to worship him. He did not organise little ashrams/temples/churches nor communes where he was served hand and foot to "purify" his followers.

Therefore, he was not a cult leader.

... then again, every religion starts as a cult, until a rich and powerful group of people decides to belief and make it mainstream.

No, he was a philospher; he never pushed Islam or Hinduism in his talks, he promoted humanism. Treating your fellow men with respect and showing that everyone is a good person on the inside (no-violent resistance; they can only beat you so long before they get demoralized by it)
