i live in canada and im trying to buy a car from a private sale i just want to know if i can tell if the vehicle is still under a loan by using the VIN number.

Yes you can apply for a loan on the vin# However, your bank might call the seller to verify that he is selling th vehicle!

I don't know if you can even use CARFAX in Canada, but if you can... it tells you the last time the vehicle was sold.

if the car has a lein, the owner will not have a title. the bank, mortage co. will have the title.so they cant sell the car unless it is paid off first.
