I agree with all other posters. It's not society's job to take care of you and your kid. Tell your boyfriend (who should have been your husband first) to get a job. You could get one too. Next time try some birth control (that IS free in California) before you get yourself knocked up again. Grow up "young, hot and horny".

In response to theburlace: I DO live in California, and I know exactly how much it cost to live here. I know several couples (including me and my HUSBAND) who make it work without looking for handouts. It doesn't matter where you live, if you have a kid, be prepared to take care of it. If not give it up for adoption and let someone who can afford one take care for it.

A second job for him? Overtime? My husband was working 60 + hours a week after we found out I was pregnant.

I dont think any of these posters realize the high cost of living in California. Even if both of you are working it can be very expensive to provide a child with a good life nowadays. I am sorry everyone is being so mean, there is nothing wrong with getting a little bit of help, it is better than making your baby suffer because of it. My husband and i both work and we did fine as far as making ends meet but a family should never have to worry about being able to provide food for their kids. there is a program called WIC (i think its Women and Infant Care) It is a nutritional program designed to help low/middle income families who would rather ask for help in order to receive healthy food for their babies than buy top ramen and spagettios every week. They offer help to pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as food vouchers for children up to 5 years old. We got coupons for milk, juice, formula (if you need it-which can be very expensive) , cereal, peanut butter, beans, eggs, cheese...you know, very basic stuff but definitely helpful when money is tight. i really dont think it is a bad program, it really helped us out a lot while we got on our feet, especially during the end of my pregnancy and when my son was first born and we only had one source of income.
good luck to you
and congratulations on your baby (remember you can get WIC vouchers even while you are pregnant, this is a very important time to eat healthy)

nicely, darling, because of the reality that, until the midsection a protracted time, it became lawful - in the two the church's and the civil government' eyes - for a pair who meant to marry yet had not yet performed with the purpose to have intercourse (they might not be charged with fornication if caught), and that the church did not blink whilst called upon to solemnize a pair's marriage on the comparable time it baptized their first 2 toddlers (given the undertaking of shuttle and the occasional shortage of priests), it style of feels to me that the physique of strategies of modern Christians in the direction of pre-marital intercourse and the fetishizing of virginity owes extra to the nineteenth century Victorian attitude than to any church teachings. yet it fairly is in basic terms my opinion. Stop looking for a free ride. We taxpayers do not want to support your stupidity. Get a job. If you are "just pregnant" you can work!
