Hey, it's your day, do what ever you want! Neither my husband or I like cake, so we had someone make a cheesecake for us. I am a firm believer in making yourself and your soon-to-be husband happy. If that's pie, Great! We almost didn't have anything because we don't like cake, so why should we have it?!

I agree with most of the people above. I don't think a wedding cake is a necessity however I'm not sure I would go for a pie as a replacement. Besides, how many pies are there going to be? Do you plan on feeding all of your guests pie? A pie buffet isn't a bad idea, however if a full blown wedding cake is not your thing maybe you could try matching chocolate fountains (light and dark?). That seems like a nice replacement and something all of your guests could enjoy.

I personally never have gotten a piece of the wedding cake at a wedding, so I don't think it really matters. Photographers always make a big deal of taking a picture of the bride and groom cutting the cake. You should think about how that will look in the album. I think whatever the bride and groom want is fine. Also consider the propensity for pie filling getting on people's clothes, I guess. Do people prefer cake to pie in general? And can you serve enough guests? All things to consider....

Bad idea, here's why... you could just as well say, "why not a cake made out of donuts," or "why not a bread pudding," or anything else, besides just pie.

You can have pie any time. Wedding cake is a big, beautiful, special, significant to the event, tradition, which is open to so many beautiful choices of gorgeous designs and flavors, that it makes no sense to serve some darn pie instead... that's just tacky.

A wedding cake is part of the wedding tradition. I think serving pies would come off as being homemade in your mother's kitchen. If you are only going to have 25 guests and it is an informal reception in a church basement, pie would be acceptable. There is a differences between doing things inexpensively and doing them cheap!

You might could do pie instead of a groom's cake, but I wouldn't have pie instead of a wedding cake. Of course, it's your wedding so do whatever you want.

If you are the bride/groom, that is fine. Whatever you want on your day, you can have. My cousin had cheesecake in lieu of wedding cake at her reception. I think pie & ice cream would be awesome!

Good Luck & Congrats!

A lot of couples are actually choosing to personalize their reception by having a dessert buffet with a variety of cheesecakes, or pies as you had asked. I think it is a fabulous since a lot of people don't care for cake anyways ... if you want the most for your money, give your guests a bigger selection!!!
