Now is a good time. I bet it is getting stinky. Just do it when mom is gone. And if she is in a whelping box, then she shouldn't try to move the pups, but if she is on her own somewhere, or if she is not yet trusting of people being around her new family, then I would try not to interact with the pups too much, but you should be fine. You are going to want to start handling the pups pretty soon so that they get used to being touched by people (and by handle, I mean hold for no more than 10-15 min/day - start it slow!)

My goodness, when my female has her puppies, I spend the next eight weeks washing bedding..Change them often. I use old blankets that I can just throw in the washer..Not sure what you are using..Don't use newspapers the ink from the pages can get on the puppies or the mother nipples. I bet I have change mine at least five times a day..and always first thing in the morning. The most important is keeping the puppies clean no matter how much you have to change the bedding.

I usually wash it the same day. I always have several different changes of bedding for the pups.
Make sure, however, if you are going to wash the bedding, you use a very mild detergent. Ivory Snow is the one the I use most. Also, I never use the bedding the same day that I have washed it. I want to make sure that any perfumes or detergent smells are well out of it before it is use.
Be very careful when changing the bedding. Puppies have a wonderful tendency to bury themselves in the folds of fabrics! Good luck to you!

You can throw the birth bedding away as soon as the mother leaves to go eat, or go out to the bathroom, but be careful not to touch the puppies to much so as to not leave your scent on them, thus causing the mother to try and move them.

It should be removed after the pups are born. I sometimes change the bedding while she is still whelping if there are several babies because as it gets wet and nasty, the pups can become chilled.

As soon as the mom has left to go to the potty outside.
The sooner the better, it's not very healthy for the pups.

You should leave it over night..then change it the next day...because it can cause infection leaving the dirty blankets under the pups..just make sure you rub the new blankets in the pups and mum..so she won't mind it being changed :)
