I don't drink, but usually at the places I go I order something for the hell of it, but I know a couple people at my job that bartend and their feeling is that the non-alcoholic drinks cost less and are just eating up mixers they could be using for other drinks, so I'm like, when I buy something I usually leave a larger tip to compensate or whatever. Is it that big of an issue?

No, it is a non-issue.

I tip because they bartender *served* me, not because of what they served me.

No, it is not an issue at all.
Non-alcoholic drinks cost less that ones with alcohol. Most people tip a percentage of the cost. So yes, you would tip for a non-alcoholic drink at the same percentage, which works out as less.

The bar can replace mixers at less cost than the alcohol. Please don't feel guilty about "using up" all their soda or juice. They are a business, they should have plenty in stock.

This question reminds me of one of my biggest pet peeves.. tipping based on a percentage of the cost! It has never made sense to me why I should have to tip more for a $5 beer and less for a $1 coke when the same amount of effort is expended by the server for both! I think of the poor coffee shop waitress bringing refill after refill and being lucky if she gets a buck, and a bar server getting $2 or more for delivering one pitcher of beer. There is something seriously wrong with this system... but yes I'd definitely leave a higher percentage of the coke price than of the beer, specially when you usually get free refills!

I tip more for a non alcoholic beverage only when it is free!! Many places give their designated drivers free pop, and when this courtesy is extended, I make it well worth the servers time. When an establishment does not offer this program, I tip less! Pop literally costs PENNIES per glass and should not eat up their mixers. Ask your fave establishment if they do this and when you tip well, your glass is never empty!

Huh? Tips aren't supposed to pay for inventory. If the bar isn't making enough to replace its supplies, they need to raise their prices.

I always tip the same 15% for good service. It's not my fault that the price is different.

I tip the customary percentage. It's not my responsibility to run their books or worry about their stock.
