There are many organizations that help our brothers and sisters at arms that are homeless. Perhaps you should talk to one of the representatives of those organizations.
There's the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Purple Heart Association, Disable American Veterans, etc. If you have some time off, and want to help even more, you can do as suggested by a person above, and become a VA Volunteer.
I applaud you for your good heart, and sincere desire to help our Veterans.

Did you consider volunteering at The Veterans Administration Hospital in your city.
Call the hospital and ask if they use volunteers.
