if the cat has a problem being held, it would let you know and as far as annoying them, theyll let you know when that is old. . .I annoy my sisters cat all the time, shes, fixed, fat, and a total b**** (THE CAT! that is!! LOL!!) So I'll pick her up and cuddle her like a little baby and tell her how fat she is! SHE HATES IT and when shes sick of it she usually claws or bites!! LOL!!

Depends on what you do after you pick her up. If you dress her up in doll clothes and stuff her in a baby buggy, I think she would be annoyed! I don't think it would shorten the life provided you are gentle with what you do once you wake her or pick her up. And when you pick her up, does she struggle to get away? They will let you know if they don't want to be handled. You may even get scratched or bit. If that is the case, take the hint. Let kitty dictate. If she seems OK, then give into that temptation. Cats generally like attention. I have three and they are always bugging me to pick them up! Only problem is I have just one lap.

No, it does not get an animal nervous or shorten it's life; but it does make an animal more likey to annoy you when you want time left alone. Think of it this way, if you choose not to annoy him or her during sleep or something, then the time you do spend with her (when she/he so chooses) will be that much more fun, and loving then if you choose to pick him/her up all the time.

I've never heard that picking them up shortens their lives. But it doesn't sound like you're doing much bad to it. My friend in high school used to cut off all her cat's wiskers on the left side so she would keep running into walls. Apparently their whiskers are what keeps them balanced. She also used to dress the cat up and paint the cat's toenails. That cat's still alive, and I think it was 10 years old back in high school. (It's been 8 years)

Yes that is a bad idea to do that all the time. Cats get very nervous especially of they are always surrounded. So try to control your temptation to pick up and annoy your cat!

I think cats have different temperaments. My cats love to be held and picked up and they love to sleep on my lap....they purrrrr away They don't get annoyed when they are picked up while they are sleeping. It really depends on your cat. Also, I do not believe it shortens their lives.

Well if it is as you say, annoying then I say you shouldn't do it, as they need to have some privacy in their lives also. I think she will let you know if she doesn't want to be bothered, she will probably go and hide somewhere, in which case you should let her have her privacy.

Not at ALL! In fact MY favorite thing to do is to annoy them by pretending to be another cat and lick their paws!
It's a laugh riot!!!
