AB+ is the second rarest blood type. Approximately 3% of people have AB+. The rarest type is AB-, only about 1% have that blood type.
I guess its one of the rarer types because you need one parent to have A and one parent to have B (or AB) and both B and AB tend to be quite rare.

Group ab is the rarest of the abo groups, with ab-ve being rarer than ab+ve. It is thought to be the rarest group because it arrived on the human scene later than the others. I believe this is explained by the theory that population migration, late on in history, caused a mixing of groups of people with a and b combining to make ab individuals.

I would suppose it's because A is far more common than B. So to get an AB offspring, you'd need a (common) A and a (less common) B.

I can't off-hand give you the statistics, but AB+ is not that rare. O- is rather rare, if I remember. An online search in www.webmd.com and similar health sites may give you more information.
