Some say God is called Yahweh, others say he is called Vishnu, others say he is called Allah...
Some say you have to worship on Sunday, others Saturday, others say every day....
Some burn incense, others burn candles, others burn crosses on people's lawns....
Some say there is one god, others say there is a one-in-3 god, others say one god with many incarnations, then the others say there are no incarnations...
How is anyone supposed to believe in God when nobody has their story straight?

here are severl basic problems as I see them, first the english language is very limited, we say God and Gods and the only difference between these is one is singular and one is plural. but in religions that is not true. So the first point is that Yahweh is the god of judism, which is different from that of christians because christians belive that God has already come to earth (Jesus) and judisum does not(by the way I am a christian) so even though the same name is used the reality is they are differnt 'people' and have different personalities. Now there are many other gods Zuise, Allah and so on and due to our limited english language we tend to just say God but that is like calling everything that walks on two legs humans it is simply not a good way to descibe humans. Along with that goes the times to worship, Allah calls for his followers to worship in one way and Elohiem(christian God) calls for his to worship in another. note that these names are often simply God in another language but that the personalites are very different which is why we stick with those names.
I chalenge you to take a good look first at the bible, and by good look I don't mean go to church but rather read it your self cover to cover and then compair it to the book of another god and decided if the story is straight. the reason most people can't get the story strait is because they have never read it themself ( that is like trying to write a book report with out reading the book, and just watching a cartoon of the book. you will get an F for sure)

God does have his story straight, and part of the journey you take as a believer is figuring out what people on earth is his church and who the pretenders are. But the most important thing is serving God to the best of your ability not worrying about others. If you have the faith, god has the time to guide you.

Because people follow religions that are man-made. And in these religions is a requirement for one to be right and the rest wrong. Because they were written down by humans, and created by humans they consist of paradoxs and inconsistencies. What you listed is all from a human point of view on how to please and follow God.
If people spent as much time actually getting to know God as they do trying to follow some guideline there would probably be a lot less disagreement. All of the differences come from the human end.

In a time long long ago, there were no planes, trains or automobiles. No cell phones or faxes or computers. Each culture that rose up came up with it's own story - it's own understanding of life and the Unknowable. Surely this is no surprise?
What is surprising is that they come up with similar stories. Certainly the names and details, customs and taboos vary - but they each have a Greater Power (some facet off that power, some don't), they each have a way to communicate with that power (prayer, meditation, etc.), they each have a life after death, and they all have version of the Golden Rule. I think that is the interesting and much more unlikely part of it.
Peace!

They all say what they believe is the truth, and all others have it wrong.
But you'd think if there really was a "god" there would be one main religion because "god" would have told the world only one thing....... So if religious people think the other religions are fake - why do the wonder so much when atheists dont believe their particular one. hope you know what i mean (have brain scramble today)

They all agree there is a god, and they they all think theirs is the only true one.
Reminds me of the story about a pack of flees on a dog's back arguing over who owns the dog.

The problem is do they all believe and practice what the Bible says? No, they don't therefore anyone that does not, is not living in obedience to God. You raise a good point, though.

"god" is like favorite foods, music, movies.
everybody should develop their own tastes, rather than following the herd mentality.
