I speak to my husband in Czech and he speaks to me in Slovak, we understand each other. And both of us speak to the baby in our native language.

Your child will probably grow up trilingual. Good for you. Keep the ancestral languages alive.

it's incredibly easy (and fast) for babies to learn multiple different languages as they grow up. your child will even be able to communicate only in czech, or only in slovak. kids in multilingual families learn early and easily how to separate the languages they are learning. you might want to get him some books in each language as he gets older to strengthen his vocabulary. i would encourage learning both languages... if he's living in the US he will likely learn english from friends/tv/school... and don't worry, he won't be a worse english speaker, he will probably have the strongest language skills in his class when he finally gets to school :)

Most likely a bit of both.

Language learning for an infant is the result of what the infant hears.

Hopefully the child will learn to speak English.

Well, what language are you going to teach them? They'll speak whatever you teach them.

I'm French and my boyfriend is Croatian. We're going to teach our kids, English, French and Croatian. So they'll speak all 3.
