i love how you people assume things. obviously, since people are saying there is no drafting going on then i was not drafted. also, i never said it was me who was doing this. i just recently saw texas chainsaw massacre the beginning, and they dealt with that type of situation. i was curious of what could actually happen....but sue me for asking a question on yahoo answers...seriously.

There is no draft currently. If there was, however and you did run to Mexico (yes, it is really "that easy") you would be subject to arrest on trying to return. The sentences for draft dodging have varied by federal court from community service to prison time.

It will be the same as if a soldier goes AWOL. They don't actively go looking for you. The only way that you would get into trouble is if you broke some law and the police ran your name through the NCIC, or National Criminal Information Center. They have a copy of every record of every person who has either been in jail or arrested. If you turn draft dodger and get caught, then you would be looking at some jail time and possibly a summary court martial.

IF there was a draft:

Yes it is that easy, or even running to Canada. The problem will be coming back into the country. With the current state of security on the borders, they would run your name and find a warrant when you tried to come back, and IF the government did not have amnesty for deserters, then you would be arrested at the border and processed for your crime.

If there was a draft you would be a fugative. If you were caught, you would do a number of years at Levenworth or other federal penitentiary. You would then have to serve your military term before getting a dishonerable discharge. Most deserters head for Canada, at least they did during the Viet Nam era.

As of right now as you know there is no draft we are an all volunteer military, but to answer a simple "hypo" Its illegal, its draft dodging and its a Felony punishable i think upto 5 or more years in prison plus a hefty fine.

NO you can not just jump the border into Mexico , if you come back , they will be waiting , and they will bring friends with big guns to get you ...after of course you are released from a Mexican Prison for illegally crossing the Border....

You'll get busted.
Best thing...The day you get the notice, run off and join the Air Force. It's the easiest of the branches.
