There are tens of thousands of people currently going out and buying copies of Windows Vista at $100 - $200 a pop and attempting to load it onto their old computers thinking that they will get some kind of benefit from it.

Microsoft very clearly lays out the minimum and suggested requirements for running Vista, but most people don't even know what RAM is, much less have any concept of the effects of the operating system.

I'm actually getting a laptop with Vista Premium on it sometime in the next week or so.

It's got an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL50 and 1 Gig of RAM, so hopefully it should be able to handle it. If it gives me crap though, I'm going to dump it so fast it'll make Bill Gates' head spin and go back to XP. I'll probably dual boot it to Linux anyway but I've got a lot of progs I need windows for.

You cant! Most people are not very PC literate to begin with. If there were any product ever introduced to the public that could be screwed up as easily as a computer, I would like to know what it was! People tend to think any PC will do anything! They dont read requirements on software and hardware boxes, they know absolutely nothing of Ram and how their PC works, Its opened up an extremely large job market for people who know! I try to help but most people arent ready for truth so I guess I will just sit back and collect monies repairing their systems! I have a small shop and do sideline PC repair but am thinkin now is the time to go full time!

Since you have no contact info, I have no other choice.

In reference to http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ao7jxT3ovQ2lDqFB5.U3n9FOxgt.?qid=20070302124125AAaj8Ia

You stated, "You will need to put a 1 ohm resistor in series with your speaker so that the amp sees a 2 ohm load.

Make sure the resistor wattage is sufficient to handle it - it'll probably be a pretty big sucker.

Otherwise you can shell out a few bucks for an impedance matching block. "

Obviously you know nothing of car audio. I know this because he stated he had a DVC (dual voice coil) so adding a 1 ohm resistor would not come out to be 2 ohm, but more like 3 if all were wired in series.

Even if it were a SVC, the resistor would cost more than another subwoofer (which would be the smart thing to do), would reduce the overall performance by half as half of the signal would be lost in the resistor and would get extremely hot from dissipating that much power.

A "impedance matching block" is a matching transformer. Finding one that could handle the power his amp puts out, (I know him and his amp) would cost over $500, again a sub would be cheaper.

Never ever suggest a resistor in car audio. If you don't know, don't answer.

I've always thought it'd be awesome if there was a system implemented, similar to a drivers' license, that you had to take an aptitude test before you were allowed to use a computer.

The first part of the test would be: "Find the Start button". If they miss this question, they can't have a computer. Computers are dangerous weapons in the hands of morons, so why not have a licensing system like we do for guns? ;)

Ask questions exactly like this. Hopefully people will read them, and hold on to their copy of windows XP (or sell it to me- email me.) Instead of moving onto the extraordinarily buggy and unrefined Vista. People need to realize that all of the drivers for printers, network cards, etc have to be completely rewritten for Vista, meaning they won't work. Vista is NOT as good as XP- for now. Give it some time, the price will drop, and it will be more compatible in the future.
(And I'm serious, if people wanna sell me their copy of XP, or give it to me, friggin' hook me up!)

Spend more money on an ad campaign then Microsoft does to convince people that Linux has better features than Vista, is available for free, AND will run on half the hardware.
