It depends on the individual. Just as a lot of people whose names end in -stein don't pronounce it the German way (like shtine), not everyone called McBean pronounces their name the Gaelic way. In Gaelic, if that's what you're interested in, it's more like MacBain that MacBeen.

I think it's pronounced MacBain - why ? Because the photographer Angus MacBean always pronounced it thus, and he's the only MacBean I've heard of
