My freind is joining the Nat. Guard. He doesn't know if he wants to go through with it. He is a christian. He doesn't know if GOD approves of him going to war. He is very confused. He is a preacher. He knows what God wants him to do. He is just uncertain if going to the Nat. Guard is apart of that or not. He doesn't know if he can serve the Goverment and God. He worry's about it so much. He only joined it for money so he wouldn't be broke when he got out of school. Please give me some feed back thank you.. Greatly appreciated. May God Bless!

God Bless you. We are called to fight the spiritual battle through the New Covenant. Genesis 9:6 says “Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot”. Yet Jesus tells us, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” And He Himself demonstrated this truth when He was attacked, telling Peter, who tried to defend Him, to "put down the sword...for all who pick up the sword shall die by the sword."

We are called to put our trust in the Lord. I have much more on this if you are interested, feel free to email me. God Bless...

If he's really a christian, he should follow what his bible teaches him: thou shalt not kill (it doesn't say MURDER, it says KILL). Turn the other cheek. Love your neighbor. Do good to those who hate you and despitefully use you.
Jesus took the sword out of Peter's hand.
If you're a christian, you can't follow your savior AND go to war -- the two are opposites. If you go to war, you are not following jesus, and you're a hypocrite.

Personally, I'm an atheist...and as such don't follow jesus, and had no problem serving proudly in the military. Any christian that does so, however, is indeed a hypocrite and not a christian. No amount of irrational justification can change that.

David was a man of God, and he also went to war. He was a man after God's own heart. There is nothing wrong in going into the military. I am a Christian, and I served my country for 9 1/2 years. I didn't go to war, but If I had to I would have defended my country. Think about all the men when they came over here to America. They were Christians, and served to protect the freedom of all of America. God is awesome, and He will not hate him for doing what is asked of him. There are verses, but off hand I don't know where they are right now. God told us not to worry He will take care of us. We are to obey our Govt. as long as it don't go against the law. Thou shalt not kill, mean meditated murder. Most people go in to service to see the world, college, money, and to serve and protect their loved ones. I am proud to be a Veteran. God bless you both.

There is a teaching called "Just War Doctrine." It describes the acceptable reasons for going to war. There has been debate about whether the Iraq war can be considered a just war and in fact the Pope has condemned the war.

When Peter wacked of the ear of the high priest, Jesus told Peter to return his sword to it's place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword. Matthew 26:52
Jesus kingdom is no part of this world. John 18:36 His kingdom, government, when in place here in earth as in heaven, will bring peace here upon earth. His and his Fathers government will never be brought to ruin. It is an everlasting one. .Daniel 2:44

We all serve in different fashions both this life as well as (and more) God. Joining the military in defense of our country (a free nation with freedom of religion) is a very noble pursuit of his service towards humanity and he can do Gods will along the way. We all can in whatever job we do whether we are lawyers, judges, soldiers, hair stylists, or gas pumpers find ways to glorify God, serve him, and spread the Gospel.

There are many Christians in the armed forces. His joining should be a personal decision - regarding if he's sure God wants him to do so.

His god told him "Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also". Jesus would not want anyone to go to war.
