im not a christian im agnostic. but i see all these questions that are like "what keeps atheists from running around murderering and raping".

my question is, if it was proven that god didnt exist, would christians then go do these acts? what stops them?

(pointing out, COMMON SENSE, no you wouldnt go rape and kill just because god doesnt exist. your morals would still exist regardless of a god)

I don't get those questions either... it's whacked. Just makes it look like they have to have the fear of eternal torment hanging over them in order to be "good".

"Common sense" is a forbidden term here in Yahoo! Answers. You'll probably get deleted for even mentioning it. =)

Chippy,
Empathy is understanding anothers feelings or emotions. There are a few problems with your question. Doug is right you can't logically prove a negative. You can't prove your method of proof to be the correct method. A proof must have evidence to support the claim. Let's assume beyond that and back to your question. God has been proven not to exist. Society norms, expectations and laws would still exist to prevent humans from from running around murdering and raping. Morals would not be lacking in a person that doesn't have faith or a personal relationship with God. What would be lacking is peace, security, and serenity. Common sense, in my opinion seems easier to disprove, if that were possible.

Take care

Jen

Don't you realize your question cancels itself out? That is like asking, "If you had 3 oranges, and gave away 3, how long would it take you to eat the remaining oranges you had?" That is just the first part since the second part of the question really has nothing to do with the first and I understand your question perfectly well. But do you? This is not an insult at all (not even a jab or joke)...I hope that I or someone is able to answer you well enough to never have to even wonder about these things and try tying them together. I shall try, anyway.
First of all, you have to understand that most true Christians have such strong belief in God because they have heard and felt Him. It is not a "funny feeling" or a "voice that COULD still be yours." But, unfortunately, I cannot fully explain this any better than most (or any) Christian can. I am convinced that if this part of "KNOWING that God exists" were more able to be explained, almost nobody would disbelieve anymore. Really. Once you realize that God the Father, God the Son(Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit exist and truly hear Him or feel Him (they are all One God still...hard one for anyone), it would be easier to convince you that YOU, YOURSELF do not exist than to try to disprove God at that point. So, with that, those who really believe were first convinced by all the truth in the Bible. Because, if it is presented correctly, it makes perfect sense. All of it. Then, it goes beyond information...which is as far as it goes for most things people believe and yet they hold on for dear life harder to those than God because they never experience the truth and then experience the next part. You Feel or Hear God. Well, then it's all over. You already believed and then THIS HAPPENS?!?! My point to all of this is that, if there were no God and it could be proven, there would be nearly no Christians left. Most Christians begin as non-Christians searching for a way to disprove it. What happens is they see that it makes more and more sense, and it yanks and pulls at their conscience and subconscience because if it is true, then you ARE accountable for your actions! And who wants that??? EWW!!! YUCK!!! Someone to answer to!?!? Uhh...h-he...he doesn't exist..Yeah! That's it! But by then you KNOW that is not true. And finally, the Holy Spirit comes along and convicts you of your wrong doings and you wind up admitting you are a mess and you need God. You actually need Jesus and you are thankful that He died for you, 'cause you lost count long ago on your bad deeds(sins)!! Sometime shortly after that, you wind up giving your heart, your SELF, your LIFE to Christ. After all, he did when you were still a sinner. And when that happens, when you give it all to Him, I mean REALLY TRULY give it over to Jesus, then comes the part I cannot explain. I have done most drugs in my life and NONE of them come close. The peace, the true happiness that never goes away, the love you have always longed for you are finally feeling more than you ever asked for. And that is just the first day. So, only truly insane people would be left if you could prove there was no God. And you have to remember...Christians...true Christians do not do evil, spiteful, hateful acts. But there are those who are not Christian who do very loving and giving acts for no other reason than to do them. I have known several and myself was one. I never wanted recognition for the niceness, the sacrifices, the going without something so someone else could have something. It just feels a million times better when I do it now. But if you see people doing evil hate crimes and heinous acts like killing etc., they are NOT CHRISTIAN. This one is completely Black and White. Although, there are Christians who take things too far (like Constantine) and think they are still doing things for Christ. They are not...it is only for personal gain/ satisfaction and by then, you are no longer working for God. Unfortunate, but it happens. There have been those who sinned majorly when they had been a Christian before and if they are truly TRULY sorry and repentant for what they did, then yeah, I have heard of those who have been forgiven in situations like that. But if you think you can sin, thinking, "Oh, God will just forgive me afterwards..." then you are in for a really sad awakening. And those who ARE forgiven in cases like I mentioned, WILL pay dearly for it. Remember that vengeance belongs to God and he does not share.

Okay, thanks for clarifying, but my answer remains the same as in your last question: my morals and values would remain the same because I was raised with good values. I would also still say that God could never be proven not to exist and I would challenge anyone to try.

Bad assumption on your part. My believe in Christianity is exactly and solely the foundation of my morals. No God? No reason not to do as my darker impulses say. I would not be a very nice person except for my feeble attempts to love and forgive.

lots of the breeds you point out - presa canario, cane corso, dogo argentino, are no longer breeds i could propose for brand spanking new canine vendors or certainly maximum canine vendors. they could, like each and every breed, be appropriate pets for the main stunning proprietor; yet they have extremely good protecting instincts and could grow to be aggressive to the incorrect human beings if no longer heavily socialized and knowledgeable and supervised. The AmStaff and different bull breeds have undesirable reputations by way of undesirable press surrounding "pit bull" varieties, by way of a pair unhappy incidents and the popularity of such breeds and varieties with criminal and ignorant vendors. i do no longer hate any breed of canine. My canine has performed with "pit bulls"; i.e. pit bull mixes and purebred American Pit Bull Terriers. some years in the past, a canine of mine became into bitten by utilising a pit bull; had the canine been fairly vicious, the chew could have been some distance worse; because it became into, the chew healed without pass to to the vet; and the provocation to the chew became into aggression between 2 intact male canines (mine on a leash and the pit bull unleashed, the pit bull charged). I lay the blame completely on the canine's proprietor. there are a number of breeds that i would not very own; consisting of the bully breeds, Boxers, Malamutes - they are in simple terms too plenty canine for me; too bodily effective and severe-power. The extra protecting/doubtlessly aggressive varieties, like the dogo, the cane corso, the presa, tosa inu, even akitas; and others, i would not have the rigidity of will and experience to enhance precise. I additionally do no longer opt for to very own any breed of canine that has a tendency to be canine-aggressive; a private determination. I easily have continuously been against breed-specific law. while i became into youthful, the canines maximum feared have been Saint Bernards, Dobermans, and later Rottweilers. Now this is the "Pit Bull". In 2 many years, yet another breed or form will possibly grow to be the main hated and feared breed; it form of feels to be inevitable, extremely in present day cases, with the frequency of the two information and incorrect information.

~~~Chippy,,,, From philosopher Alan Watts, "Morality is the invention of Human Intellect,,, and wishful thinking." ~~ It is not the fear of Moral Retribution which would deter the newfound Godless Christians,,, but their Conscience,,, and their Perception of Right & Wrong.
Chip...
You can't logically prove a negative.
You can't prove "God doesn't exist".
It's a foundational concept of logic.
What the world sees as 'good morals' is not always what God sees them as.
