Replenish (refill?) the earth?

Its there, Genesis 1:28.
So what exactly does that word replenish mean, was there something else there before, was there something there before Genesis 1:1? Thank you very much for your input.

well, it's not exactly what was said before Genisis 1:1. It's is more about what was said AFTER. If you look in verse 2 it says, " and the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of the of God moved upon the face of the waters." Now in Genisis 1:28 God says to REplenish the earth meaning there used to be something there but now the earth is surrounded by water (until God cleaned it up). so basically when he created man he wanted them to repopulate the earth. As far as what happened before i'm still looking into it, but that's a very good question!

It's not what happened before Gen 1:1, it's what happened after. I Isa. 14 and Ezk. 36 we see the fall of Satan. Many believe this took place between Gen. 1:1 and 1:2. There are many evidences of this in scripture. In Psa. it says that god has never created anything without form or purpose. In the creation story the word created is used only three times, meaning thing already existed. He uses the word made several times. This means that I can make a chair out of wood but I cannot create the wood. God created these things in time past. If you will study this you will see that science and creation are not far apart.
