The Royal Navy allows "full sets" (beards and moustaches together) but not beards or moustaches alone.

Article 1105 of the Queens Regulations and Admiralty Instructions forbids the wearing of moustaches without beards by officers and men of the Royal Navy. Naval reservists of the RFR and RNSR are permitted to continue to wear their moustaches while performing their short periods of naval training (RFR seven days every other year: RNSR twenty days each year) but not when called up for service.

Yes, if you've got enough whiskers. Not just a "football team" But first you have to ask for permission to "stop shaving". You will be inspected after a while, to see if it is up to standard, if not you will be ordered to "resume shaving" immediately. No straggly, wispy, beards allowed!!
Same applies to moustaches in the army,
In the Army, as far as I know, only Farriers are allowed beards.

Yes you can grow a beard (but not a moustache).

Also, once you start growing a beard you are not supposed to trim it ( most do).

I believe regulations also theoretically still allow you to grow your hair long - as long as it is tied back and tarred. In 23 years of service, I admit, I never saw this!

Also, in addition to other replies, in the 23 years, I only ever became aware of 2 gays and then only after they had left the service. Less than you would meet in any pub in, any city on a Saturday night I would guess.

I did meet a remarkable number of guys who were divorced or on their second marriage because of women problems.

(Twice married - Four kids)

Isn't the Navy for gays?!

My mate in the Army is not allowed to grow a beard as the gas masks won't seal onto the face if you have one. I believe that the Officers are allowed them as they aren't frontline folks.
