Hey guys
I really want to get my teeth whitened but don't want to get ripped off! Is it best to go to the dentist or do home kits work just as effectively? What is a decent price to pay? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!
:)

I have been using a teeth whitener from my dentist for a few weeks now and I'm not too happy with the results so far. It's called "opalescence". With the trays and the gel cost was about $300.00. Some dentists offer laser whitening. That seems to be the best thing on the market as far as teeth whitening.

I've used Crest Whitestrips about 5 times and they work pretty well. Last year, I tried Zoom whitening (with the gel and strong light). When I got up from the chair, I couldn't believe how white they were. However, 4 days later, they were only slightly whiter than what I would expect from the whitestrips. And the pain was with me for 24 hours (the process dehydrates the teeth and you get nerve "zingers" until the teeth rehydrate).

They also gave me a mold and some of the Day White gel in a syringe. I use this now about once a month and it works as well as the whitestrips but a lot faster. The gel has 7.5% hydrogen peroxide. I noticed that there are lots of these as well as some with 9.5% on Ebay.

I think I'll stick with the Day White gel and buy some of the 9.5% strength on Ebay.

My brother just got porcelain veneers. They look awesome and can never stain. The only drawbacks: 10 teeth x $800 = $8K and he had a lot of pain from the pre-installation work.

if you brush your teeth in the morning and at night and after every meal then they should start to get whiter
