Those dogs do tend to get extremely large. There are a few things to consider here. Do you have a yard with adequate space for this dog to play and roam in? Do you have a fencing unit big enough that at full grown this dog can't escape? Are you able to provide the amount of food it will take to feed this big guy once he's reached maturity? And, of course, vet bills. Will you be able to pay for regular visits for your dog? I'm sure he will make a fantastic companion if you decide to keep him, but if you're not comfortable around him, or if you think you won't be able to meet all of his needs, I'd say you may want to fine him a more compatible home. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I work in a rescue and have had a lot of experience with big dogs. While I would never agree to buying a dog as a present, you now have a dog. Bullmastiffs are lovely dogs, BUT you must socialise him as soon as he has been vaccinated and you have waited a couple of weeks for the vaccines to really kick in. You do not want a bullmastiff on your hands that doesn't like other dogs. They are strong and could do damage.

They are usually very friendly, but you will enjoy your dog a lot more if you train him to be obedient. Remember that a puppy's brain is like a sponge, it takes in everything very quickly, but these things must be reinforced. It is far easier to train a puppy than an old dog.

Cuddle this puppy a lot, and play with him. While he is still small, you won't be so scared of him, and if you are with him everyday while he grows you won't be scared of him.

Good luck.

I use to hate big scary dogs. Until my husband came home with a pitbull (full grown) In fact the Pit Bull was the first dog I et put his face near my face since I was bit in the face by a dog 12 years prior. Now I love big dogs. We've had two Pit bulls, a German Shephard, an Anatolian Shephard (by far the bigest), and a Greyhound. They were all great dogs!!! I say face you fears.

As long as he's a friendly puppy and your parents are OK with keeping him, then I'd keep him and learn to live with dogs. Take him to obedience class so he learns manners. He will grow up to be a big dog, but if he learns his manners when he is little, he will end up being a good friend and you won't be so afraid of dogs anymore.

He will not be mean if you work with him,and take him to obedience classes-show him you love him and create a good bond of trust! He will never hurt you if you do those things-but he may be very protective of you!I think you should give him a try-and if it doesn't work out, give him to a good home!It wouldn't be fair to the puppy if you gave it away,he could save your life,or at least be your best friend!Congrats on the possible puppy-i hope this helps :)

That type of dog does get big. REAL BIG. I don't know if this will be a problem for you later. You will probably enroll him in obedience class like latter mentioned. This would be the best step you can take if you decide to keep the dog. (I don't believe that those dogs are aggressive)

You know, you look real familiar

Bull Mastiffs do grow to be very large, but they are gentle dogs. Spend time with him while he's growing (especially now, while you think he's cute) and he may help you over come your fear of dogs.
Since he will be quite large, it is very important that you get him trained. Puppy classes will be a wonderful start to this and will be a great way for you to spend time together.

The best way to get over a fear is to face it. Being around a dog and not having any issues with it will help get rid of your fear of dogs. I say keep it if you have the ability to take care of it.

I can tell you that a bull mastiv is a very loyal, friendly, dog and he will love you to death as long as you love him too. A dog takes alot of work and devotion. So in order to get use to him you need to spend as much time with him as possible. Take him everywhere you can with you, love him as much as possible and he will return the love. Hope this helps!
