for our anniversary this year my boyfriend and i are making each other presents as we are trying to save for a house! anyway I have always wanted to make those mini marzipan fruits and animals you see in shops but have never got around to it. I thought for our anniversary I would make him a box of marzipan shapes. I thought I would make shapes and objects which mean something to us, and things we have done together. For example a rhino because we recently went behind the scenes at the zoo and patted rhinos and we now love them!! but i don't know how to do it!! I bought a packet of marzipan but don't know what to do next. is is as simple as getting a bit of marzipan, adding food dye to it to colour it and then moulding it into the shape i want like clay? then leaving it?? or am i dreaming that it is that simple? if anyone knows please help me!!! how do i do it? what do i add if anything? what else do i need to know? do you bake them to make them set or just leave them as is? THANK

ok so i asked this yesterday, but noone answered it properly so am asking again. I don't want to know what marzipan can be used for and other recipes for it. i want to know how you use it to make those little marzipan animals and fruits you see in the shops. how do you colour it? how do you mould it? and do you need to bake it to set it or just leave it once you have finished and it will set itself??
Thanks!

* Check out these websites:
For the time being, there’d be no baking or whipping or mixing or whisking. It’s time to bring in one’s artistic skills AND creativity to replicate something (may it be fruits, vegetables, animals, figures.. etcetc) So, keep you chef’s knife and bring out your best assets; your hands!! and also some tools of trade.

Marzipan can be used in many confections including cakes, cookies, pies, frosting and candy. I have listed a couple of websites below that have some good ideas on making the marzipan fruits and shapes, as well as other marzipan recipes. You'll need to scroll down to the candy section on the first website (but its all marzipan recipes). They should be tinted with paste or gel food coloring and you can also add flavored extracts if you like. My grandmother used to make the strawberries and then roll them in red sugar. Just remember to keep them small because they are very rich.

it is as simple as adding some dye to it and molding it like clay. have you taken it out of the package and tried playing around with it?? the only suggestion i have is to use caution with the dyes b/c they can sometimes make the marzipan too slippery and it will be difficult to work with. but if that happens, dust your hands with a VERY little bit of powdered sugar and keep going. work quickly b/c the warmth from your hands will make it very sticky and also hard to work with. store the extra in the fridge while you're not using it and work in small batches.

the dyes i reccomend can be bought at any crafts store and they are made by Wilton. they are a gel-type of color and are what the pros (like myself) use all the time and will give you a more even color without having to use a lot. a very little bit will go a very long way...take a toothpick and stick it in there and use enough to coat the bottom 1/8 of an inch of it. there are also powdered food colors but i have never used them with marzipan.

here's the link to the Wilton website. just click on Online Store and then cake decorating tools and it's in the center of the page. that'll at least give you an idea of what you're looking for at the store.

Just think of marzipan like play do and yes it is as easy as that. Try to shape it as best you can as your rhino and you can color it before with a paste coloring or after with powder color and a brush. Good Luck :)

i like marzipan and icing . you are able to delight in them whether you do no longer in basic terms like the cake (absolutely everyone can no longer make Christmas cake yet they could't destroy the marzipan and icing can they?...or can they? 'A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine pass down'! somewhat cheese is going down precise with the cake too!
