My husband and I are moving to New Windsor, NY from Boston. Our apartment is $840 a month, and the town doesn't seem too bad... does anyone live in or around there? is that a good price for that area for a one bed and bath apartment?

Also, are the people who live there racist? maybe everyone was just in a bad mood, but it seemed like everyone didn't have a problem talking to me but when it came to talking to my hubby, they gave him quite an attitude (he's asian.. I am white). any input would be great

$840 a month in New Windsor? No kidding! That's FANTASTIC! The complex where I live (it's off 94 near the Vails Gate Firehouse) starts at $995 a month! Condos start around $200K and most houses are in the $300K range lately.

Some people can be racist, but not everyone. There's also some ghetto trash and some snooty snobs and normal people. You'll see the gamut. Because it's an okay commute into NYC, there's a LOT of people moving up there from the City with that mentality. It's not so much a "redneck" town - that's more Walden and Port Jervis - I think almost EVERYONE in those two towns are related to each other. As someone said, the main school district (New Windsor actually has residents going to three school districts - two are small, mostly white, and fairly clique-y) is VERY ethnically diverse. (They tried to get New Windsor their own school district a couple of years ago, and the town residents voted for it - I didn't - but I guess that since they discovered that the money for it doesn't grow on trees, they've pretty much let it drop.)

BTW - in case you're interested - shop at Hannaford's if you can - the people there are SO much nicer than the animals at Shoprite. (at least that I've found.) As you learn your way around, go out to Adams' market for the BEST produce around too.

(email me if you want to talk more about the town: zippythejessi@yahoo.com)

I grew up in that area. First, people are no different there than Boston. In fact, I find Bostonians to be more unfriendly, and more impatient than anywhere else I ever lived (which includes NY, Cinicnnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Albany, NY and Richmond, VA).

You won't encounter racism. I went to school in Newburgh (very ethnically diverse school that included Muslims, Asians, Hispanics, and African Americans). Everyone got along (although this was 10 years ago). New Windsor is nice. The rent seems a bit low for the area, but I believe you can find a nice place in that range there. Housing in that entire area is much worse than Boston though. Expect to pay at least $400K for anything above a "cottage"...I think you will like the convenience to NYC via the MetroNorth Rail (pick up in Beacon to get to Grand Central Station). I hope this helps you out. If you enjoy the country, you are very close to the Catskill Mountains...

it fairly is not achieveable for Buffalo to be an exact suburb of Toronto for the reason that that's in yet another united states. Buffalo has different concerns going in the direction of it. The winters are long, it takes oftentimes for some element of get finished, the inhabitants is getting previous on the comparable time the business enterprise grads pass for greater interest opportunities. on the upside, there is friendly nutrition here. I surely have lived good here in Western ny my entire existence, even however i'll especially much for sure have have been given to bypass once I end my masters as a fashion to to discover actual looking employment.

New Windsor is an OK area, but Orange county in general is very redneck. Also a lot of blue collar types from NYC living there and they tend to be very rascist. Most of them moved there in part because they are xenophobic.
