I used canned tomato sauce, and it tastes salty. Is there any way to reduce the salt taste? I've heard of using a potato (to cook in it and let it soak some up) but I do not have a potato. Any other suggestions?

Dropping a cut potato into the sauce will remove some of the salt but another way to reduce the salt is to counter-balance it with a bit of sugar or honey. Start by using just 1/4 teaspoon and seeing if that works. Then continue to add pinches. You don't want to go in the opposite direction and have the sauce become too sugary, so take your time and add little amounts slowly.

You will have to dilute the sauce, to reduce the salty taste. Evidently, the brand you use has more salt than you want. You can add some stewed tomatoes (low sodium or no salt added), or cut some fresh roma tomatoes and add them to the mix, and let them simmer some extra time to let them blend in the sauce. If it is too watery, or tastes too bland, you can add some basil or a small clove of garlic.

Is it salty or acidic? Add about a table spoon full of sugar to combat the salty/acidic taste, you may have to add a bit more depending on the amount of sauce you have.

I make my own, and when I use Tomato Sauce I also add a can of Tomato Paste. I have never had salty sauce.

buy a better quality sauce and paste and use diced tomatoes with their natural juices since they won't be salty naturally and add a little hit of honey (it blends more evenly than sugar) and cooking it longer. that'll cut back the acidity and the saltiness. good luck!!

Try Pomi brand tomatoes - they don't add salt and they're tasty, high-quality tomatoes imported from Italy. They're also more expensive...of course!

Look for them in the UHT "box" next to the other tomatoes.

We buy the "no salt added" variety of tomato sauce and paste and then add our own herbs and spices.

Try adding a little sugar. Keep adding until you get the taste you like, but don't make it too sweet!
