Using a concentrated medicinal extract from three powerful herbs from Chinese, Ayurvedic (Indian) and Western naturopathic medicine, Focus ADDult works in three ways:
The principle ingredient, Centella asiatica, promotes mental clarity, enhances memory and brain function and helps to alleviate anxiety. This medicinal herb is so highly respected in Ayurvedic medicine for its effect on the mind, that it is even said to increase knowledge of Brahman - the supreme reality. Recent studies have suggested that Centella asiatica improves cerebral blood flow (CBF) and circulation in general, thereby allowing oxygen rich blood to penetrate deep into the brain.
Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) is well-known as an all round tonic and energizer. Like Centella asiatica, it also promotes CBF. Recent studies have found that Rosemary contains acetyl-cholinesterase inhibitors, chemicals that prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is a brain chemical which is involved in memory functioning and acetylcholine deficiency has been linked to Alzheimer's disease and memory impairment.
Panax Ginseng has been used in Chinese medicine for more than 5000 years and is one of the most prized and expensive Chinese herbs. It is used to reduce stress, increase energy and motivation, strengthen the immune system and decrease fatigue. Studies have shown that Panax ginseng enhances physical performance in athletes, while the Soviet scientist, Dr Brekham, identified it as a superior adaptogen, normalizing body functions, reducing stress and preventing disease. Further studies in Japan and India have demonstrated that rats fed with Panax ginseng were able to learn tasks quicker, perform at a faster rate and make fewer mistakes than those in the control group. Panax ginseng should not be confused with either Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosis) or American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius).

ADHD (Attention Defecit Hyperactivity Disorder)

This disease plagues parents and children alike. Often children with ADHD are placed on a drug called Ritalin (Methylhenidate). This drug, can do more harm than good. Remember these medications hide the symptoms but fix nothing. Many of the imbalances in the MATRIX will exacerbate or may even cause ADHD.

Large numbers of emotional disorders have been linked to adrenal hormone imbalances. Adrenal hormones are essential for life. When one experiences physical or psychological stress, the adrenal glands release natural chemicals such as adrenaline, Dhea, and cortisol (all adrenal hormones) directly into the bloodstream that calm the stress. In the case of ADHD and ADD the Mangosteen Xanthones help to balance the liver and the production of these hormones, which in turn alleviates stress. A continous flow of xanthones in the body will insure further alleviation of stress.

In individuals with ADHD, mal-absorption problems may diminish levels of tryptophan and other amino acids.
Xanthones have been found to balance the tryptophan/serotonin relationship in the brain. This is done through the detoxification and healing of the liver by the xanthones of the mangosteen.

Xanthones also are anti-inflammatory, and thus the mangosteen may help heal the gut and cause the return of normal gut absorption. This would also help end many allergic food reactions that are caused by mal-absorption.

Mangosteen has anti-inflammatory effects, anti-oxident effects, acid-lowering effects, and NO major side effects.

Your child has had ADHD since before he was born. You've known about it since he was 4. I understand that it can be frustrating to watch your child take brain-altering medications. I've done it, too.

Over 80% of children with severe ADHD attempt suicide before the age of 18. The primary cause of this is severe depression due to being considered "social outcasts" because of behavioural issues. My son took Ritalin from age 4 to age 16 and didn't get a close friend until he was 15, but thanks to consistent and loving support and intervention from his teachers, support workers, and family he's made it to 18 and after desiring to commit suicide several times during his younger teen years, is now proud of his accomplishment making it through to adulthood. There were many days, though, that I knew the only thing standing between him and death was the extra time the Ritalin gave him to think through his suicide impulse and not automatically act on it...

Along with discussing treatment options with your doctor, there are questions you can ask yourself to help you make a good decision as his parent. You don't say how old he is now, so I'll keep the questions to ones that are basically ageless:

First, what is his quality of life on the medication(s)?
What would his quality of life be without them?
What other supports/adaptation training techniques is he receiving so that perhaps eventually he can cope with his disorder without medication?

I get very frustrated when I hear people say "ADHD kids don't need medication". If a child had diabetes they would not deny the child insulin.....

Many children learn mechanisms to cope with their condition and with social and personal situations so that as they mature through their teenage years they can stop using medications. While they are learning these techniques, medication is sometimes all that stands between them and impulsive self-destruction...

Let him go outside a lot and run around to get all the energy out of him. Vitamins and omega-3's should'nt hurt. My little brother has ADHD and that helped.

ADHD is a "chemical imbalance", (ie. neurons don't go into the right direction), not something that can be cured with vitamins. I'd suggest to let him get lots of exercise and have on some form of meds, not to the point he is a drone though.

It Depends on the brand of vitiman and meds.I think the best thing to do would be to consult his docter.Just becausehes the one that prescribed the meds doesnt mean that hell say no,If hes a good docter hell do what he thinks is good for your son.But you might want to also get a second opinion.
-good luck
