hi bikerbch6,you REALLY havn't got anything to worry about,HONEST.its a doddle.i had one a couple of months ago,and i was just like you,i was sooooo worried.i went into hospital at 10.30am,a nurse came to me at 10.45am took my details from me,put a drip in my arm and said when i am taken through to theatre by another nurse, which was at 1055am, she will put in a sedative through the drip, which just litterally knocked me out.i was soooo surprised to wake up in the recovery ward at 11.15am,all over and done with.when they woke me up i was given a cuppa tea & biscuits,i didn't even have a sore throat afterwards.if they give you an option to have the injection or the throat spray,go for the injection.ive heard sooo many bad things about the spray.and you will not have any problems with the injection.hope it all goes well.good luck

I have had many endoscopy done and they are a breeze really. You are given Versaid (you cannot remember anything) and Fentynl for pain by IV. The process takes around 20 to 30 minutes and then you must have a ride home as you shall be altered from the Versaid. They will let you call a cab for a ride if you have no support system in place to help you safely home. The chances of you remembering what they say following the procedure is minimal so have them (tell ahead of time) write it all down for you. I have not had sore throat from them so that is another posative thing. Hope this helps.

It depends on which oriface is being endoscoped. If it is the colon, the worst element is the prep - clear liquid diet the day before and followed by a strong laxative. You're up all night evacuating your colon. Bummer! Once at the out-patient center the nurse or tech starts an iv. The doc or anesthetist gives you something to make you drowsy and diminish pain - often a combination of fentanyl and demerol (but there are several others.) Then you wake up asking, "is it over?"
Anticipation of a procedure is often as bad or worse than the procedure itself. If you are really nervous, ask your doctor for something you can take temporarily. On one occasion I took Xanax, on another, a beta-blocker. Both worked.

I have had a few endoscopy's done. Trust me.....you wont remember anything. They give you medicine to make you sleepy and in a twilight state. After the procedure your throat may be a little sore.....but other than that it really is a piece of cake. Just make sure that your first meal after the test is a light one. Maybe some soup or something to that sort. Good luck......and don't worry!!!!!!

being honest ive never had never had one, but i have 2 things to say.
1. I do honestly know someone who has had one and she is fine, ok yeah she is very poorly and waiting for an operation , but we know what is wrong and her family are doing everything we can to hurry up and make her better.
2. Hospitals are scary and anything maedical is scary, i dont know whats wrong, but this kind of investigation it is the best you can do so they can found out whats wrong and get it fixed.
Good Luck !!

lasts about 3 monutes and you can opt to have it done fully sedated if you are really worried.
Do not eat for 6 hours before having it done.
I had one done just before Christmas and the nurses were lovely.
