Peanut butter is a good source of protein and even on the Atkins diet you are allowed peanut butter. You should read lables as some have more sugar than others. I tasted my first pb&j at age 27. I thought it was food for the God's. With my mom it was butter and peanut butter. Now I am an addict!!! My jelly of choice is actually strawberry jam. I think I will go make one right now!!

This can be healthy if you choose healthy products just like with any food. Its not necessary to eat these items together, its just one of those aquired tastes and traditions...if someone feels they must have these three items in the form of a sandwich, it is best to choose whole grain bread. Bread made with whole grains other than wheat (like spelt or brown rice) is best because wheat has a lot of gluten sugars. Most name-brand peanut butters have added sugar and salt for flavor. Just get a brand that doesnt add anything extra and the person eating it will benefit from healthy proteins and natural fats ...AND... i think vitaimin E but I'm not sure. The jelly is hard to comment on, its gonna be sugar no matter what you try to do...the substitutes made from artificial sweetners cause a whole nother problem, so fresh fruit or jelly made with unprocessed cane sugar can work but that is just the best type of sugar...you might be asking how to cut sugar out and its just better not to eat the jelly, lol.

Peanut butter has a lot of nutrition. It is high in protein and nutrients. The Jelly is mostly just sugar, sometimes it has real fruit in it. The bread could be good if it is whole grain or has seeds. White bread isn't that good for you.

Basicly they aren't that bad because of the peanut butter.

Try marshmallow fluff with peanut butter! UMMMM.

Peanut butter is actually good for you, as long as you don't buy the super saturated fat/sugary peanut butter (i.e Peter Pan). If you get natural peanut butter and jam (instead of jelly, which is usually more sugary), you will have a pretty good sandwich.

As an alternative:
Try toast with peanut butter and sliced up fruit on top (bananas, strawberries, etc). Delicious and nutritious!!

Peanut butter is healthy and will keep you full for awhile, get low fat though. And I always buy Smuckers sugar free raspberry jam for my house. Also try to get whole grain bread. All these things will give the nutritional side a boost, and will help keep the same great taste!

there is if you put it on whole wheat bread!! I use simply jif which is lower in sugar, and I usually use jelly or jam that is sugar free too. (saves on calories) Also peanut butter is a good source of protein. How can you knock such a classic source of comfort food???

Well they might have a lot of sugar, but they sure are goood.

And as a matter of fact, you can choose the natural peanut butter instead which is lower in sugar and tastier than jiff or the other store brands. it also contains protein and healthy fats that are essential to your body.

as far as the jelly goes, i usually eat the sugar free kind because it's so low in calories that i can slather on a lot.

If you eat organic peanut butter, jelly with no sugar, and whole wheat or whole grain bread... it's actually not bad for you at all. Peanut butter is fattening but it contains the good fat that you need.

there is plenty of nutrittional value in a pb&j...the problem is most ppl buy nasty commercial brands...if you have a good whole grains or sprouted grain bread, natural peanut butter and a real fruit spread without added sugar it is great meal...
