To me, from an outside perspective, I can't think of too many examples in which an organized religion has really promoted female equality. Maybe, Epsicopalians, because they support the ordination of women....

Just look at the Baptists, who have openly come out against having female preachers.

Look at the Muslim community, and Amish Community where women have to wear a veil.

Do you think the Dali Lama would ever be a woman? Even Scientology is focused around a guy. Muhammed, Jesus, and Moses were all men, no surprise there. Do you think an orgainzed religion would ever be focused around a woman? How often to your hear God referred to as a "she"?

So women, my question is this. Why do you put up with these stupid religions that seem to be so focused on keeping you one step behind men?

Paganism, which pre-dates Christianity was all about worshiping the feminine. No surprise that Christianity tried to eradicate it.

I am baptist and the churches I've seen have women ministers and preachers. That's a stereotype that is completely invalid.

I also have seen women preachers at non-denominational churches, Episcopals and Methodist churches. So you all have made some headway.

Plus. This isn't even a religious thing. It's a cultural thing. There have bee women prophets in the bible. Your research is way off.

The Dali Lama is the head of an Organized religion.

You are redefining Organized to mean Abrahamic and Monotheistic.

I, for one, don't follow any of the above religions, but I don't approve of semantic games.

I put up with Islam because it is the religion of ALLAH and I want to go to Jinnah when I die. Also the Qur'an and a Hadith say that Muslim women and girls must cover everything except eyes. It does not just apply to the prophet's(PBUH*) wives. In Islam man and woman are equal.

Is this your very round about way of calling me stupid? I'm a Catholic. I LOVE my faith. I don't feel slighted in any way. I've read the Bible. Several versions of it. I understand all the conclusions my church has come to.

I have made my choice. I don't appreciate it when people who don't know me come along and tell me in a very bigotted fashion that I am ignorant for my choice. Those same people claim to be "more tolerant." I just don't see it.

Any system of belief where a woman is central is only to exploit her. Someone mentioned paganism. Yes, with their little naked lady icon with the huge boobs. So loaded in respect. Not...

My faith does not exploit me. I am sacred. I am cherished.

I don't. And I lose a lot of respect for women when I find that they do.

Even if I weren't an atheist, the gender inequality is one reason (of several) why I could never ever follow any organized religion.

CHRISTIANITY REQUIRES GENDER EQUALITY AND RESPECT FOR LIFE
by Monnica Terwilliger

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Monnica Terwilliger is an Evangelical Protestant Christian. She belongs to the Foursquare denomination, which was started by a woman, Aimee Semple McPherson. Terwilliger describes McPherson as "a successful evangelist, healer, and pastor because of her strong spiritual anointing. According to a prominent church historian, Vinson Synan, 'She holds a prominent rank among all religious leaders in the twentieth century, regardless of their sex, and may well be the most important ordained woman minister in the history of Christianity.'"
Terwilliger's article is identifiably Evangelical in the centrality it gives in ethical deliberation to the words of the Christian Bible and to the example and teaching of Jesus, considered the Son of God and the Savior of the human race. -- Editor

Why do you ask this question every few weeks? I've seen this question before.

Women are part of organized religion for the same reason as most other people - indoctrination.
