he had to have the tip of his tail amputated because he attacked it so frequently & so bad that the bone & nerve & tendons were sticking out. (we tried avoiding it, for months we cleaned & bandaged it every few days, but he still got to it) afterward, he had to have a cone on to keep him from it, and he's been good for a couple weeks. but today he started going after it again, so he was scolded and the cone put back on. but then he started attacking and chewing on random things--the blinds, a sweater that was hanging to dry, etc. he doesn't normally do such things, but he seams all freaked out & psycho, like he can't stop. he would momentarily stop & look when he was scolded, but immediately go back to doing it, running off as i stood up to move him (so he knows he's not supposed to chew on these things!).

is he psycho? can cats have ocd? what do i do?!?

oh, and in case anyone wonders, he's not like that very frequently. most of the time he is very lovey & cuddly, one of the most social cats i know. he doesn't hurt the other two cats, or anyone, just himself & inanimate objects. we've tried a squirt bottle, tried distracting him w/ attention or toys, but it only works for the time that we are actively engaging him (and we can't do that ALL day & night!). he won't calm down & sleep (usually he would be sleeping right now, but he's acting like this)

yeah, he's been in & out of the vets office several times, had blood work done before the surgery (which included neutering). he's VERY healthy they said, and they're a very good vet (specialize in cats even).
he's about 9-10 months old i think.

also, i've had him about 5 months and nothing in the household has changed. the behavior started about 6 wks after we got them (he & his sister--and she's not in heat, she was a couple weeks ago & he didn't really act differently then)

They have medications. Talk to your vet to see if it makes sense.

I understand your concern, but one thing is for sure.. I have two kitties and they will do anything to let you know there is something wrong with them. I had a roommate that had a cat and he constantly urinated on the furniture.. they just punished him and banned him to the garage not wanting to even ask a vet about the situation. He later died a few weeks later because of a swolen blatter and it got infected on the inside. In other words all animals choose to do things to get your attention, youve made some changes to make him stop hurting himself but to him hes probably trying to get your attention on another level. the vet would be the best thing to do, but make sure you give a call before they take your money for something they cant explain. call ER vets and see if they have ever heard of cats doing such things and what the cats that have had those problems done to fix the pain. in my experience cones work for just a little while.

Your Cat has LOTS of prey drive.. He needs lots of toys around and needs you to drag a towel across the room so he can catch it...

get a dowel and glue some twine around the end of it.. now tie it to a towel / burlap / piece of leather...*what ever*... and start playing with him...

It also sounds like perhaps you may also have some catnip growing around your house somewhere? too much catnip can make a cat go bonkers and become hyper active...

If this does not ease the *pain* then please contact your vet and drug him... as per the other advice.... :((

GOOD LUCK

He could have nerve damage causing him to feel threatened. He could be having a serious allergy to something.

Is he losing sleep? Is he stopping to eat? Does he respond to affection?

I'd get him a full physical just make sure you use a reliable vet. It is easy to get taken for a very expensive ride here.

I would speak with your vet about this. They may be able to prescribe a mild calming drug to stop this behaviour.

cropping tails isn't unheard of, and i wouldn't suggest it, but your cat is having issues and not having a tail shouldn't crimp your cat's style too much.

Give him catnip and watch the results. If he mellows, you know what to do. If he gets mega hyper, then it'll be fun to watch. Either way, it's a win win.

Nobody cares about your cat. You should just put it to sleep.
