Here i my situation...I have this friend who I have known since high school and we have been good friends ever since. At the start of our friendship I saw her more as friend that a g/f. Lately though it seems that an attraction has been growing the more and more we hang out. She is always telling me about these guys who she has dated and based on what she tells me I think she deserves somebody so much better. Most of these guys that she has dated have had no job or have done time. I think if I surprise her with a gift maybe she will get the hint. What is the best think to do?

Now to confuse anybody when I say diamond I mean something like a necklace or bracelet with diamonds in it.

save the diamond for another time, buy her a nice small gift that she would appreciate, or just tell her how you feel..she might secretely care more for you as well..you never know unless you take a chance. She would probably not accept a diamond from a friend, its a bit much.

DO NOT BUY HER DIAMONDS.

Now that's out of the way, once you said "..I think she deserves somebody so much better." you immediately moved from friend to interested party.

If she truly has the laundry list of losers in her past, you must approach this very carefully. When a woman is used to being treated less than respectfully, it is usually because that's what she has been exposed to her whole life. So when someone comes up and treats her like a lady, with respect and dignity, she won't know how to handle it and will run and hide. In the end, a too straightforward approach may hurt not just your chances at a relationship, but your friendship as well.

You are in a good position here, however. Being her friend you know her likes and dislikes. Buy her gifts, but very small gifts at first. The type of gift that won't raise eyebrows. Is she in to some obscure band. Find a CD from them for a gift. Is there something she really likes to do, like go to museums. Do that WITH her. Do whatever you can to spend time with her. Progressively move from friendship position to person-of-interest. You'll get a good feel for how she feels, and you'll know when the time is right to tell her how you feel.

I would advise jewellery with some kind of diamond in it. Maybe one with a heart? There are some gorgeous heart pendants and bracelets out there. Then, she would definitely get the hint. I reckon she likes you as more than a friend.

Well, you don't have to buy her a diamond, (save that for the wedding). You could buy her a nice bracelet or necklace with some sort of gemstone in it.

I think she'll get the hint!

A gift is fine and a good idea.. but do not give her a diamond. Save that for when/if you want to marry her.

I have a suggestion for a present more special and precious than a diamond ... one that would make any girls heart melt .... a guy that can tell a woman how he feels and why ...... and it is cheaper too :-)

I would be like "HOLY CRAP! I love you! OMG this is gorgeous! Thank you so much!"
Get her a delicate diamond necklace.
