I have heard that you are supposed to prep your hair like the day before you get it colored to prevent more damage. Is that true? If so, what should I do to my hair to prep it? Any help would be great!! Thank you!

Hi!

In my opinion it always helps to have healthy care before you color. A deep conditioning treatment would be a good thing for you to do a couple of days before you color.

Your hair color will also adhere better to your hair if you haven't shampooed it for a couple of days. Your natural oils will also protect your hair shaft.

Good luck!

Don't wash your hair a day or two before you do it. The oils that build up in your hair help to keep your scalp less damaged. Afterwards, condition the hell out of it.

If you are Dramatically changing your color.
1) Shampoo the day before
2) Deep condition that morning.
3) After coloring, condition well or use a hot oil treatment.

For Subtle changes
1) The night before wash with a cleansing shampoo and rinse with cider vinegar to remove buildup and dullness.
2) After Coloring condition as usual

I don't know about prepping, but color works better on dirty hair, so don't wash it right before you get it colored. Then after you get it colored, deep condition it.
