i went to catholic school, had nuns teach us. were taught how to hold a pen and write. had a hot lunch program walked to school, could go home for lunch if you lived close. not a lot of cars back then. we all had bikes. went out to play, not many TV sets till later. we had geography, art, history (there wasn't as much history then) english and religion. they were building the expressways back then in the early 50's. went to a public high school that had a lot of kids. we had split classes with 11 45 min sessions. I went from 7th to 11th my freshman year. upperclsassmen started early and finished early. had a student ID for the city bus for 25 cents each way. There were lots of activities and sports then. Didn't get drivers ed. Went to friday afternoon dances at the park district field house plus an occasional dance at the school. graduated 1960. And remember, we invented rock and roll. Bill Haley and the comets, etc. etc. "Grease" was a true story.
