It has absolutely no evidence...Of course if it helps people lead a moral life, well then go with it...but it amazes me how frequently people equate it with, or claim that it is superior to science...faith has nothing to do with evidence, peer review, reproducible results people...if ya cant handle it then fine....but dont say the bible is better than science when it is all faith--IT HAS NO DATA!!!.....QUESTION: As a human, I have a brain and the first thing I am gonna do with it is turn it back in and not use my ability to reason, but just believe something because someone said it is the "truth"?? sheesh....I prefer to use my time on earth and since I have the ability to reason, I feel good about my ability to have independent thoughts!

James....if the 1st step is to believe God exists then isnt that faith?? And I day, fine, what is the evidence--there is no evidence, just stories! SO WHAT!! If science is 100% wrong...it is still the right approach (evidence, peer review, reproducible results) as to understand our world and even if the bible is 100% right it is still the wrong way (faith) to understand our world

Nearly every Christian answering here has engaged in selective observation, marketing those items they see as supportive, remaining blissfully unaware of those that are not.

Let's take jclindro, who got all excited about "circle of the earth." But the earth is not a circle which is a flat 2-dimensional object like a round table top. I guess Yahweh, like JC, has no command of geometry? Funny if he made it all that he doesn't know that isn't it?

The earth is a sphere, specifically a geoid and not a flat two dimensional "circle", which is in fact how many ancients imagined wrongly imagined it. In the very next line it describes the sky as a "curtain" when it is a vast multi-dimensional space, not a curtain, but JC doesn't think "oh, well it's wrong about the circle and curtain" or even "it's just symbolic language, not science", he simply ignores what doesn't fit and reinterprets what he can to fit into his prejudice.

This is why argument about scientific fact with theists is fruitless. No matter where they set the goal line, if you get there they will just move it again because they are as emotionally dependent on their fantasy divine father as a child is on its parents and they are just as capable as a child of magical thinking and plugging their ears when they don't like what they are hearing.

You may as well try to educate cat litter. Actually it's worse because at least cat litter is absorbent and doesn't actively resist input.

Yeah, yeah, I'm going to hell like everyone else that doesn't share the theist delusion. I'll risk it.

People insists that it is factual for the same reason that others insist that it isn't. There is scientific evidence that directly relates to stories in the Bible. Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to science so why should I just believe that? How many different scientific versions are there to how the worked started? Yeah and there is fact behind all of them. If you believe something hard enough or want to disprove something bad enough you will find evidence to support your view. Let it go. Believe what you want to believe. Me. I am going to take the better safe than sorry road. If it is true, I am saved and will go to heaven. If its not then I am no worse off for having lived a good life, and having believed in a being way more powerful than me. Now you on the other hand. If its true you may be on your way to hell. I am not trying to go there with you buddy.

i believe you have the first step right, that you have a brain & that you have the absolute right to think & do whatever you believe is right... in theology that is called freewill.

people of faith (some of them anyway, as opposed to merely religious people) are doing the same thing. the only difference they have with atheists is that they have first believed that there must be a God (as opposed to the idea that there is no God).

& from there they grow their faith & they start to believe the Gospel accounts (as historical fact, as well as) the accounts in the Book of Acts, & the relevant historical & archaeological evidence and so on & so forth.

some of them are also using their brains to understand their belief system. and just like anyone else they are taking it one step at a time, not just merely following what some religious teacher has said or simply following a religious doctrine.

if you need proof, it is just sad that ancient history is not repeatable (& observable, no cameras back then)... but if you need evidence, the first step is to be convinced that there is a God.

Why? Well, because they want a definitive explanation as to how the world began, and what happens after you die. It is kind of ironic.

If you think about it, science has theories as to how the world(solar system, galaxy, universe, etc) came to be. But, science is also comfortable saying that all these theories will remain theories. There will be no way to know exactly how "it" all came to be. People of religion have ahard time accepting that. they want to know exactly how it started.

The same thing can be said about what happens when you die. Science will likely not ever be able to determine to the living what happens after you die. These two questions are the main reason there is still religion in the world. While most gods have been explained out of existance by science, these two most likely never will be.

I think it has to do with that, and people's desires to be "immortal". People want to think that they will "be" in some form or fashion forever. People of religion are not comfortable saying "when I die, that is it. I will cease to exist on all planes".

1. Archaeology supports the claims of the Bible.
2. Bible is historically accurate.
3. Jesus has risen from the dead.
4. It has a lot of data that is testable (places, formulas, names, geneologies, prophecies, etc...)
5. I see that it is very reliable & may I add has been preserved perfectly for close to 2000 years.

Regarding independant thoughts, that is fine, as long as it doesn't contradict what the Lord says.
Or are you saying: You > God & in that case You=God?

Me, I believe that God>Me therefore I will submit to Him.

I believe it is factual...Did you know every coin mentioned in the Bible has been found by archielogists? (And the cities mentioned) Did you know it says in the Bible that God hung the empty place in the Northern sky and astronimers have found a black hole or empty space in the Northern sky?

Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

You are absolutely wrong! There is some evidence, not for everything though, archelogists have dug up soddom and gommorah, a city that God burned to ash. it was burried in ash and they found pottery from that time period. they also found king david's palace. they also have Roman record of jesus's being crucified. they also have nonchristain sources of jesus's miracles. i mean of course you have to have some faith, but it isn't straight up all faith.

i'm no longer a Christian, so i do no longer trust it really is one hundred% genuine interior the non secular experience of how the present quite some Christian denominations trust. notwithstanding there are certain parts of the Christian bible that were shown by historians (Flavius Josephus is one) besides as quite some archeological exhibits over the finest one hundred years to be genuine. so for you to that quantity there are glaring real incidents said of their bible that has a foundation in historic truth - hence to that degree it really is real - regardless of that undetermined degree is. As for the parts no longer in a position to be common by historic or archeological info, I have a tendency to address them as thrilling metaphorical morality memories that help one take into consideration a extra appropriate thanks to stay or how others would pick to stay. i trust in respecting others rights to their interpretations of this stuff as literal regardless of if I disagree - see you later as they don't shove it in my face or use it in a thanks to make me sense incorrect or undesirable, or ward off medical progression. i wish this center attitude helps.
