Yes, they are chemically different substances, although both are "analgesics" (pain relievers) and they are also known as NSAIDs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, because they counteract the body's inflammation. Cortisol, for example, is a SAID,because it is similar to the body's steroids known as corticosteroids.
Aspirin andTylenol (acetaminophen) have similar effects, but they act differently and therefore they have different dangers. Aspirin is known to irritate the stomach in large doses, and it also thins blood. Aspirin is therefore not recommended in people with stomach ulcers or who have blood disorders, where thinning of the blood may be dangerous. However, studies show that a low dosage of aspirin can be good for people with heart disease, and it may even help prevent heart attacks.
Tylenol and generic acetaminophen do not irritate the stomach, and so they are better for people with stomach disorders. However, acetaminophen is known to reach levels of toxicity much faster than aspirin does, so if you overdose on Tylenol or a generic acetaminophen you can cause damage to your liver. Always check the dosage and take the right amount.

YES. Aspirin is the brand of acetylsalicylic acid and Tylenol is the brand of acetaminophen. Aspirin is an NSAID non-steroidal anti-inflammatory ie it works for inflammation induced pain and discomfort it is not COX selective (it works on COX 1,2,& 3). Acetaminophen is NOT an NSAID it has NO effect on inflammation but is is very good for non-inflammation induced pain such as osteoarthritis, and for people who can take NSAIDs like pregnant women. It is COX-1 selective. Acetaminophen is toxic to the liver if given at doses greater than 4g per day, and Aspirin is nephrotoxic (kidney) at doses greater than 8g per day
There are many other differences but these are a few.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tylenol is a brand that has acetaminophen and Bayer is a brand of Aspirin. Tylenol is safer for kids under 18 (some say even 20) and Aspirin is linked to Reyes syndrome. Awful thing to get! So it depends on who is taking the med. There is Motrin too it can help with joint pain and inflammation. Tylenol is great for fevers. Aspirin thins the blood so it can have adverse affects to any other blood thinner someone may be on or other meds. I personally go with Tylenol. I have 5 kids so Aspirin is a big no no here:) Motrin is cool to alternate with Tylenol for fevers that just won't go away. AS always take meds with care:) Good luck!!!!

Yes! Aspirin is acetysalicylate. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol. They are both pain-reliever/fever reducer medicines but have different chemical makeups.
