throw down his staff and turn it into a snake. why did god make the staff turn into the symbol of satan? the creature he cursed in genesis?

Exodus 4:4
Then the LORD said to him, "Reach out your hand and take it by the tail." So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand.

You made such an interesting point. However, I listened to an advice my best friends husband gave her, when she told him she did not understand the bible and he replied to her " Carol you can't just read the bible to just read it you must read the bible with intelligence. Now, I'm telling you the same thing. Read the bible with intelligence. The question now is how do you do that. Well this is how, everything has a meaning. Everything God does or all his works in the bible has a person, and through prayer the lord will reveal to you through his holy spirit all that you have a desire in knowing. The answer to your question is this. In the beginning satan was symbolized as a snake and the snake manipulated eve into eating that apple from the tree of knowledge, now picture this Moses was a prophet ordained to perform God almighty's great works right. Now in exodus, Moses who was performing Gods work was told by the lord reach out you hands and take the snake by the tail. So Moses did as he was told by the spirit of the Lord. One thing I see in that which Moses did, was that he was obedient to the Lord. In the beginning, as in genesis, the spirit of the Lord started off with authority. God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge that bares knowledge of good and evil, he commanded with an authority. He set a rule and because the snake came and tricked them they did not obey, however, the snake represents the enemy. Now in exodus when Moses held the snake by the tail with the Lords authority, it showed a figure of power from the Lord. In other words although the snake in the beginning tricked Adam and Eve to eat the apple, he was still able to be overpowered. If you can see the lord took that very snake you saw in the begining and by Gods very creation (which is man) in this case Moses, and he made it so that Moses could pick up that snake and not be afraid. Fear did not pull moses back, instead he believed in the words of the Lord and the Power of the Lord. The Lord took that very creature with his very power, through Moses and held that snake and made him into a staff. That staff that the snake turns into symbolizes the power that God has over the serpent. Now reflecting it on us, we have the power to conquer evil in the Name of Jesus Christ we have the power in the name of the Lord, at times when things seem difficult it's God who has the means of letting us free from captivity of our very situations. We have the power in the name of Jesus Christ.

I hope I answered your questions God Bless my brother.

You are talking about two different things. The serpent of Eden, though interpreted as being Satan, is never actually called Satan, and God put him there to encourage Adam and Eve to eat the "Fruit of Knowledge". The serpent conjured by Moses was used to strike fear and awe into the heart of Pharoh. It was a power thing. The snake or serpent is a popular symbol of evil because it basically crawls on the ground and even lives in the dirt. The purpose of both Biblical accounts is to use a symbol, in Genisis , it is a symbol of evil. For Moses, it was a symbol of power.

I guess it`s this a serpent may have tempted Adam and Eve to eat the forbiddon apple
but that doesn`t mean all are evil
like I had 2 rabbits...one would always kick bite...and fight the other was very timid...I guess you are not suppose to judge...every living creature has good and bad in them...some choose to act on the bad...while others refuse
but that`s just the way I interpret it

He did THROW it down...thereby taking authority over it.

And the reason was for God to show the Pharaoh that he meant business.

The pharaoh was an evil and prideful man, and enjoyed being around the presence of sorcerors and magicians, so God gave him a sign that there would be consequences if he did not free the Hebrews.

Obviously, Father God had Moses prove that He was more powerful that satan. The pharoah should have gotten the message also. Would have saved him a lot of grief.

God's authority and power over Egyptian gods, over fear, and over satan. He was visually showing them all three by the "rod into a snake" transformation. Moses, the servant of God and the one directly commissioned by God for the task of deliverance, had God's authority and power granted to him to use over the Egyptian gods, over fear and over satan. It is a parallel also of the modern day Church. For God grants His people today the same power and authority when we are in right relationship with Him, in our position, calling and empowerment commissioning. All we have to do, just like Moses, is "pick it up."

Why do you call a snake a symbol of Satan? I think you are a symbol of Satan.

"And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent."
"For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods."

Every "snake" in the bible is not a symbol for satan. This "snake" or "rod" had to prove a crucial point to Pharaoh. (:

Hope this help Good luck
