I am a green card holder for 19yrs and if you read the info that accompanied the card you would know that in the U.S. you need to have an picture I.D. on your person. As a green card holder you are required to carry it at all times, but the only official that can ask to see it is an C.B.I.S. agent. Most people don't even know what a G/C looks like so if you don't have a drivers license carry your passport.
