I always go to a salon and I was thinking of trying the box ones, but I am skeptical. What color did you use, what color was your hair before, what brand, and what were the results?

My hair is strawberry blonde also. I use the Nutri Garnier, it's made from all natural products and the color last a long time. Preference by Loreal is also good but I have a tough time finding the right color for my hair. I just like coloring mine a bit redder than it is naturally.

I color my hair regularly, and have for years. It comes out as good as any professional color. I use Miss Clairol from Sally Beauty Supply, I don't know if you can buy it at drugstores. It's the best one I've tried; the L'Oreal made my hair very dry, and the color faded quickly. But then, maybe that's just my hair. If you'd like to try your own color, get a good brand. If you have a Sally in your area, you can ask them for advice, or call the helpline # for Clairol or L'Oreal or whatever color you like. Or email them, they will help you. You must, must, must do the strand test, mixing just a bit of the color and developer and applying to a small strand (you either cut a piece off, or apply to a strand under the top layer). This is crucial to avoid the hair disasters that happen to so many.

I dont color my hair much now but when I used to I went to Walmart & got the box stuff. I used every thing from L'oreal to Garnier Fructis. They all worked the same for me just choose whatever you like. Here are some tips that will help you get salon results at home.
- You might need to get some one to help you so you get all of the hair in the back.
- Do it in layers & make sure you get all of your hair because if you miss one spot then it looks blotchy & nasty.
- If you have thick hair then get 2 boxes.
- Also leave it in your hair for a little longer than it tells you to if you have thick or coarse hair. Especially if you are dying it a lighter color.
I hope this helps! Good Luck :)

I have had my hair dyed at the salon once, it was horrible. I now usually only use the boxed ones. They are pretty accurat. I ahve fine hair as well. I usually use garnier, they have avocado oils that keep your hair healthy and hydrated. My original color is dirty-dishwater blonde, but I dye it usually a light aburn color, and put in the cinnamon highlights. My complextion and the [natural] color of my eyebrows allow me to experiment with anything from blonde to redhead.

I've had fairly good results mostly with semi colors. Herbal Essecne was the best.

If you can get your hands on Redken EQ shades coloring and the developer you'll not only be using something gentle but something that will leave your hair so glossy. To use you just mix 2oz of developer with the 2oz coloring, add to dry hair, leave on 10 mins, rinse out and condition.

Yeah I've dyed my hair alot and the salon is probably your best bet. But if you do decide to try some from the store use the amonia -free ones. I've had very good results from any of the amonia-free hair dyes at the store..

yes. i forget what kind it was...i think loreal. it was the kind where you add your own highlights. it turned out really good and everyone kept asking me where i got it done at. i've noticed that when you get your hair done at the salons it doesn't last as long as that one.
it was like a golden color. it was nice. don't use anything ash, don't try to dye your hair brown or a darker color. store haircolorings should really only be used to enhance what you already have.

Clairol is probably the best for over the counter use....The public can buy it...Professionals used to use it way back then in the shops..Wella is good also, you can buy it at sallys..L'oreal feria has got to be the worst..Dries your hair out and is unpredictable, and if you dont like the color its reallly hard to remove..Those are my picks outside of the salon...

Nope, I had light brown hair and got a medium dye. It turned my hair pitch black. Then another time I dyed it a light brown and it came out red. Stick to salons. Plus the box dye fades REALLY fast.

I love how "Feria" looks. it is a very natural color not like a dye from awhile back. I have gone quite blond and then took my hair back to a medium brown and it always comes out great.
