The word is "güero" and it means blond male or white male in Mexico ("güera" for a female). It's not a Spanish word in its origin (from Spain) - it comes from the language of the native Indians of Mexico, so originally means "white person".
It's commonly used in Mexico for blond people, but it can be used to call a "gringo" or any white person, even if they don't have blond hair.
(I'm Latin and white -there are white people in Latin America, BTW. Latin is not a race, for those who get confused- with brown hair, and I was called "güera" when I went to Mexico. Among white Mexicans, they use it for blond people).
PS: I think it could be spelled "huero" too, but originally "huero" means something different in Spanish.

Well, Spanish (from Spain) is also white :) It's an ancient European nation involved in the heart of European power and politics for centuries. Italian is white/Caucasian also, yes, although Italians are not Hispanic. Hispanic = countries where Spanish is official language in their country (like Spain, Mexico, etc). Italy and Spain are neighbors in southern Europe, have much shared or similar history, some cultural similarities as well of course, but are not the same.

That is "guero," and it really means 'blond (male).' "Blanco," or "chico blanco" would mean 'white-boy.'
"Guera" is blonde (female).
