I have actually heard her but I wonder what it is really all about. My mother is a liar and not a moral person much of the time. I would not ever see her as a good Christian. She tell me I am the demon possessed one because she can do this thing. It actually does sound like a language and has scared me since I was 5. Everytime I wanted to become independent from her she would go on in this language and threaten me with buring in hell. What is this speaking in tongues, is she nuts or some sort of touched by God person?

I am telling the absolute truth about this. I am not mad at her just confused and I think she is mentally ill. She does not go to the church, only watches televangelists

I am a Christian, I believe in God and would be very scared to tell a lie about this.

Also, I do not live with her, this is more something that bothers me from my childhood and how scared I was to live a normal life.

She speaks tongues when watching Tele Evangilists, when something catastrophic happens. Today she called me all happy about the storms in the States, thinking this was Gods wrath, what is wrong

For those who think I am the EVIL one, would a Christian mom make her little boy and girl lie to bill collectors after running up debt.. she used to put us on the phone and make us lie to our father for money and to bill collectors, I don't think this is moral.

There are Christians who can speak in tongues. First, there is the language of God which the Holy Spirit inside of us speaks to communicate to the Father. This is evidence that a believer has been baptized in the Holy Spirit. When I received the Holy Spirit I began to speak in tongues. My mind didn't understand it but my Spirit does. We use tongues to allow our spirit to pray to God what we cannot. The Holy Spirit prays for us in this heavenly language.
There is also the gift of tongues, meant for the unbelievers; this should not be spoken unless there is someone to interpret it, which is also a gift.
Then there is "babbling," which is evil. This imitates God's language or the gift of tongues. It sounds to me like this is what your mother is doing. We are not supposed to fear tongues associated with the Holy Spirit, but when someone pretends to speak in tongues, beware. Your mother will pay for what she is doing if she doesn't stop her behavior.
Ask God to help you see the truth. Ask Him for discernment between godliness and evil.

I would encourage you to look at early writings and biographies of people at the time of the Azuza street revival (google books has some on public domain by Frank Bartleman and others) I think we have strayed far from the pure beginnings of the movement. Also for balance read KUNDALINI WARNING - Are False Spirits Invading the Church? by Andrew Strom. A lot that is going on IS pagan and that is why it seems so. But don't think that what is in the Bible has passed. In the more remote places in the world God does work in amazing miraculous ways. I know a missionary who spoke in tongues and it was spanish. But I have not seen much of any truly genuine miraculous things in the church over the last few years. Not like it used to be.

The Bible warns of deceptive, demonic spirits. (1 John 4:1) They are described as “working miracles,” even misleading mighty rulers. (Revelation 16:14, Authorized Version) They may use humans to produce powerful works, but the visible effects do not prove that they come from God. ‘Even if it was done in the name of the Lord Jesus?’ someone may ask. Jesus himself said: “Many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! In your name we spoke God’s message, by your name we drove out many demons and performed many miracles!’ Then I will say to them, ‘I never knew you.’”—Matthew 7:22, 23, Today’s English Version.
On this matter of Satan masquerading as an angel of light in deceiving (2 Corinthians 11:14), a modern tongue-speaking Jesuit priest says: “Tongues could be a hysterical experience, or, according to some, a diabolical one.” And an Episcopal rector who speaks in tongues said: “The devil has many ways of working at us. When we come into the baptism of the Holy Spirit he really attacks.”
Also, consider this: If these special gifts such as tongues, healing and prophecy are so vital today, why did the apostle Paul write: “Are there prophets? their work will be over. Are there tongues of ecstasy? they will cease.” (1 Corinthians 13:8, The New English Bible) The evidence shows that with the passing away of the apostles and those whom they ‘laid their hands on,’ the holy spirit’s miraculous gifts passed away.—Acts 8:17; 14:3.
Today, there is something far more important for Christians to display as an indication that God is working through them. It is something all of God’s servants must have. The Bible says: “There are three things that last for ever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of them all is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13, NE) Since this is the case, one must look beyond things like tongue-speaking for sound evidences of the work of the holy spirit in our day.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are real, and speaking in tongues is one of the gifts. The place in the Bible these are dealt with is I Corinthians chapter 14. The chapter that precedes it is meant to put all in perspective - it is I Corinthians Chapter 13, the "Love Chapter" of the Bible, and it starts like this "If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong, or a clanging cymbal."
If what you say is true, it would appear to me that your mother would fit into this class. I hope you pray for her and love her. I suspect knowing the love of a mother, that some of what you say is colored by your own sinful perception.

My mother is a very god-fearing person. She also speaks in tongues. She and I have also been through very much, especially when I was a teenager...I put her through her HELL. But now I am grown up and she finally realizes that I am my own person, and although she doesn't agree with the religion I belong to, she still loves me regardless. I also spent the majority of my life being told that my sins were going to land me straight in hell, but I have come to realize that that is her religion and whatever she needs in life to make sense is what she needs. I can't condone her for being a christian, nor raising me to believe that I was "wrong" and was going to burn in hell. All I can do is explain to her that her religion is not mine and I respect her and hers, so she needs to do the same. Grantid, your mother may not be as accepting of you and your life path if you don't follow hers, but there will come a time when she either needs to deal with it, or not...and the not could quite possibly push you two apart. And trust me, no mother wants that.
The tongues is said to be a real "religious" language given to people who follow God, but I think it just sounds like a bunch of jibber jabber. Either way, you shouldn't fear your mother's religious language... I don't believe she's nuts, nor do I believe she is touched by God. I think that this is what she needs to exist and you should respect that.
She is your mother and no matter what she says, she does love you. You probably won't be burning in hell, however, you should probably put your mother's language behind you and move out and become independant on your own terms (provided your are of legal age to do so).
I hope it all works out for you. Good Luck...and don't be scared anymore.
Blessed Be
)O(

She's a nut. the Bible says that God removed the gift of tongues after all the apostles passed off the scene. Also, God said that when tongues was used, it was a translatable and understandable language, not some uninteligable gibberish.

True tongues would not be used to keep you from becoming independent from your mother. Tongues from God would not scare you.
Based on the history you provide, it sounds like your mother is under influence of a mimicking demon, one who simulates tongues.
You haven't indicated whether or not you are christian, but in any event - get away from your mother's influence.

She might be Pentecostal, they believe once you're baptized you are gifted with the ability to speak in tongues. Yet, they don't speak the old languages of Hebrew or Aramic but gibberish which no one can comprehend. You or me can do that without any baptism but they believe in it. Just try to reason with her and have patience because she has been brainwashed by televangelists who many speak in tongues.

If you are an adult, you need to start moving out of your mom's house. If you are a minor, you better call Social Services and tell them what is going on. She will be ordered to go to a psych consult and probably be put on some medication.

It is probably demonic. She is under the influence of Satan, that's were the tongues come from. Speaking in tongues is extremely rare.
