I have two small dogs, and they only eat people food. I told my parents to stop because they were spoiling them, but they wouldn't listen, and now my dogs won't eat dog food.

Is there any way to get them to eat dog food? Any ideas are much appreciated.

I would suggest mixing in what they eat now with dog food and over the course of two weeks or so, lessen the amount of people food until there is no more left in the bowl...

If youare worried about them turning their noses up at it, just think...eventually they will get really hungry and they will eat what is there for them. If they dont eat after a full day or two, then vet help may be needed.

Good luck

You created the problem without realizing it so now you have to take steps to fix it. What is the worst that will happen if you do add to the food or give extras to your dogs; they will stop eating, but not forever hunger is a powerful motivator. What you should do is set the food down and walk away, give your dogs 10 minutes to eat and if they do not eat pick it up and wait until the next meal and try again. Repeat this until they eat, and they will eventually eat (within days). You may want to offer food 2x a day but they will get the point and they will not starve to death. Good luck !!
The dog's missing a meal is harder on the owner than it is on the dog, so as hard as this may be it is better to correct now otherwise you will have a picky eaters for the rest of their years.

It is fine for dogs to eat human food as long as it is a balanced diet. There are websites for feeding dogs a natural diet consisting of human food. I guess that you would rather they eat dog food though because it is more convenient. If you feed dry dog food, try soaking it in hot water until soft & then add half human food & mix it so they can't pick the bits of human food out. Every day just reduce the amount of human food you put in. Take it slowly though, so they don't notice.

A good way to start to get them to eat their dog food again is by mixing their food with a little bit of lamb baby food. Keep doing this but add less and less each time. Then switch to just added hot water to their food, it makes a gravey that the just gobble up!!

I would make two suggestions-start mixing people food in with their dog food or else you could just insure that they are offered only dog food, eventually, they won't have a choice but eat it.

Good luck to you!

I would slowly try to wing them off of people food. Maybe mix a little bit of chicken or beef or something in with their dog food and see what happens. There's this gravy you can get at pets mart and pour it over dry food and they seem to really like that....

good luck

Maybe just stop giving them people food, and leave their dog food out. They'll eat it when they get hungry enough.

I would recommend trying the Merrick Pet Food line, it is all human grade ingredients and dogs seem to really like it.

IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN DOGS ARE NOT GENERALLY CAPEABLE OF COMPLETELY DIGESTING "PEOPLE FOOD", SO THEY ARE NOT GETTING THE NEEDED NUTRITION. I WOULD TALK TO THE LOCAL VET AND GET THIER OPINION.
TO GET THEM OFF PEOPLE FOOD THOUGH I WOULD JUST OFFER THEM DOG FOOD THEY WONT STARVE THEMSELVES AND WHEN THEY GET HUNGRY ENOUGH THEY WILL EAT IT
