If you see an ambulance outside your neighbour's (elderly couple living on their own) house across the street, would your neighbour think that you are being nosey or being neighbourly if you go over later in the day to find out if everything is OK?

I personally would go and simply ask if there is anything that I could do to help, if no, fair enough, but I should think it would be nice to know some one actually cares. If they think you are being nosey ... hey then its their problem.

Depends what type of neighbourhood you live in. I would find it neighbourly as I live in a rural area. You could ask if there was anything you could pick up from the shops as you were on your way there. I believe that as your neighbours are elderly, they might just appreciate some good old fashioned neighbourly care. It's nice to know some people still care. Good on you.

neighbourly ........that little extra neighbourly care could save a life one day . I'm sure if the tables were turned you would appreciate it too

Go on ...you know you care

It depends on the couple. I have done, and the gesture appreciated. It is not being nosey, but caring.
Of course there are some who would rather have a great deal more privacy. It depends on the relationship you had before the ambulance episode.

i think it depends whether you intend to do anything about it if its NOT ok :)
if you go just to 'find out' then it's nosey.
if you go with the offer of help if they need it, then it's neighbourly.

Hi!

If you go and see them, which IMHO is your duty, you are simply being neighbourly.

Too many people go through their lives using tunnel vision where the welfare of other people is concerned.

By doing so, you could potentially be their lifeline to the outside world.

If they don't need you, I'm sure they'll tell you!! Old people are very good at letting you know when you're not wanted!!

Best of luck!

It depends why you're doing it! And if they think the wrong thing, then why should you care what they think? Go and check they're OK and see if you can do anything to help - get some shopping in or something like that. (or is this a hypothetical question?)

Being neighbourly - it won't hurt to ask and i'm sure they will appreciate the concern!

If you would speak to them normally and are checking to see whether they need anything then you are being neighbourly.

If you have never spoken to them and are not offering help then you are being nosey.
