You make me sick. It's more likely that "uneducated, retarded or people with no future" will find work at your typical fast food chain...or Walmart.
The US Military is full young, bright, motivated, succuesful and- needless to say; Patriotic, men and women. Who, upon completeing their training will be qualified in fields ranging from Medicine & Chemical Ops to Mechanics and Law Enforcement.
You can sit back and laugh all you want. I enlisted to help protect your right to be such a PR!CK.

The military is set up to give its members very generous benefits, a limited compensation for the fact that we put our lives in the hands of the country we serve.
My life is dedicated to defending you and protecting your interests as an American, anywhere in the world.
When I enlisted, I had just finished college with a 3.65 GPA in two majors. The world was my oyster. I chose to join the Army, and it certainly wasn't a last resort or because I was stupid.
Let's do the math, smarty pants:
After 12 years service, I have a house of my own, a new car, free medical care, free dental, and 100% tuition assistance. I get a monthly stipend for food, my mortgage is paid for every month, and I have $400,000 in inexpensive life insurance. I can have as many kids as I want and never pay for OB-GYN care. In fact, I have affordable child care right here on post. I have saved 20% of my paycheck every month since I joined, and have over $100,000 in the bank, compounding interest at 10% yearly.
Best of all, in 8 short years I'm going to retire at the age of 42 and NEVER work again, because the Army will pay me a pension for the rest of my life. But if I do decide to work again, I get veteran's preference in hiring for any government job I apply for. And I have over $40,000 in college benefits waiting as well.
So if that's social welfare, who's the stupid one?

As for a social program I would say no, (Since most liberals hate to fund the military, but love to over fund social programs, so that is not) Don't worry most people in the military are over qualified and nobody wants your job, so saying "You want fries with that is safe"

Our military reflects our society. You have those who are talented and motivated. You also have those who don't have many options. What they have in common is that they all put their butts on the line for the rest of us.
That is far better thing to do then to sit back, laugh, and wave protest signs. Who are the real slugs?

You are very wrong. People in the military are smart and many are college graduates. You can't even get in the military if you're stupid. People join the military to serve their country and travel.

I asked a similar question a while back, with all of the liberals not wanting any "work" for the military, if we had no conflicts/wars etc wouldnt the military just be welfare?
I am proud and grateful to our troops and what they do - ITS THEIR JOB.
